2010 Ex35 AWD Acceleration, Deceleration & trunk issues

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

New Nico member who recently bought the 2010 AWD EX35.

After starting the car, I noticed that the car would accelerate itself up to sometimes 20mph, without any pressure to the accelerator. Is this normal?

Also I noticed that the trunk doesn't easily close and requires some exertion to close completely. Is this your experience?

I don't notice the acceleration issue, but I agree I have to give it second try many times to close the trunk.

All cars rev the engine faster when the engine is cold, for maybe half a minute. That means that with your foot off the brake, but without pressing the accelerator, the car will go faster when it is first started. I'm not sure if outside temperature makes a difference, but I imagine a colder engine needs to keep the RPMs up for longer to warm up (I live in Los Angeles and it's usually 60F in the morning).

Since colder mornings have set in I have noticed the car reving higher then usual but I figure it's the norm.
And I have experienced the same trunk issue you are referring to. I'm thinking it's because it's new and every thing is real tight but it will improve as time goes by.

the acceleration issue i'm having is that the car is accelerating without the driver (me) applying pressure to the accelerator pedal.

Scenario:
I get in the car
Start the engine
Change to Reverse gear
Reverse out
Change to Drive gear
And the car shows 1000+ rpm drives up to 20 mph

All this time I didn't apply any pressure to the accelerator and that's the problem. It's like it's set at cruise control.

That sounds like something serious enough that you should take it to the dealer ASAP.

Yes I think the behavior is very odd, and will be bringing it to the dealership. Just wondering whether other ex35 owners experienced this.

We have a 2010 EX35 without the trunk issues. But, when starting first thing in the morning, the tach shows 2000 RPM briefly and then settles around 1800. My usual route the first three blocks is downhill slightly so I never thought about it...I just thought this was normal. I'd be interested in the response from your dealership. Just so you know, we live in Northern California where our early AM mornings are 55-60 degrees presently.

I thought the 'initial no paddle acceleration' is normal. The EX does seem to have a higher rev at first start than other vehicles I have / had. Hence that may cause the 'no paddle acceleration' more than other vehicles. Once the engine heats up enough and the idle rev heads down the normal, the 'no paddle' acceleration heads back to 'the way it should be - just like other vehicles'. But would be interested what the dealer say about this.

To the OP... welcome to the Forum and congratulations on your new purchase.

Do the people who have Trunk hatch closing issues, also have the Rubber Cargo-mat and or the Chrome stick-on Bumper-trim?

Both of these items, if poorly placed might prevent the Hatch from Closing easily.

Not likely, but maybe...

Regarding the trunk, in my 2008 EX I've noticed that if I very gently close the trunk it'll look like it's closed but the car's display by the gauges will show that it's still open. This happens sometimes when I take it to a car wash; they don't close the trunk hard enough and I have to open it and re-close it. It doesn't require a lot of force, but maybe slightly more than some people expect.

Thanks for chiming in. SG77 is spot on about the trunk closure issue. The dealer cannot fix the trunk and just lubricated the trunk locks ...

About the car ... dealer found that the stock batteries are defective(!) and replaced them. The car still has the persistent acceleration issue.

Want to ADD another symptom:
Once speed is over 5 mph, lift foot away from gas pedal and stop applying pressure to gas pedal. The vehicle does not decelerate - I was able to circle my apartment parking twice and more! In fact car usually accelerates ...

Going back to dealer for a test drive diagnostic.

Had the road test at dealership a few days ago and the tech who did the road test with me also reported the non-decelerating issue.

The dealership took the car in and called me the next day that they are seeing similar issues with their other new 2010 EX in the lot and they are escalating this to Infiniti...
