Good morning everyone. Help! I bought a new altima a few weeks ago, and I notice a brief scraping noise when I: turn on the car, straighten out the wheels, and drive forward for several feet. It doesn't happen when the car has been running for a while, and I'm at a red light or anything. I took it to the dealership, and they said it was a normal sound; that the breaks were just "testing themselves?" - not their exact words. Is this normal? Thanks....

The answer to your question is in the Altima Owner’s Manual, the Starting and Driving section, mine is in Section 5, yours may be different.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS)

Self Test FeatureThe ABS includes electronic sensors, electric pumps, hydraulic solenoids and a computer. The computer has a built-in diagnostic feature that tests the system each time you start the engine and move the vehicle at a low speed in forward or reverse. When the self-test occurs, you may hear clunk noise and/or feel a pulsation in the brake pedal. This is normal and does not indicate a malfunction. If the computer senses a malfunction, it switches the ABS off and illuminates the ABS warning light on the instrument panel. The brake system then operates normally, but without anti-lock assistance. If the ABS warning light illuminates during the self-test or while driving, have the vehicle checked by a NISSAN dealer.

Don’t be afraid to read the Owner’s Manual. There is a wealth of information about your vehicle between it’s covers.

Have fun with your new car.

Is this all you do is quote s*** from the Manual? No offense, but you could have some personality. Sounds like you're a 30 year old ***hole that never got laid in high school. Just my opinion... yours may be different. You answer each post like this when you are on, seems pretty sarcastic.

As a matter fact, I do quote from the Owner’s Manual quite a bit. Why? Because Altlove 10 is not alone in not taking the time to read the owner’s manual.

This forum, and others like it, have many threads that ask simple questions about the normal day to day operation of the Altima, questions that are easily answered if one were to look in the owner’s manual.

As I have stated previously, the Altima Owmer’s Manual contains a wealth of information, information that is only obtained if the book is opened and read.. Or if it is quoted from on forums like this.

Why don’t people take the time to read the manual, so that they are familiar will all the features of their car? Are they too busy? Didn’t know that they had one? Is it that some people are incapable of understanding the instructions inside the manual’s covers?

I’ll admit, I don’t have an answer to my questions.

Nothing is more discouraging than unappreciated sarcasm, the exception being a malfunctioning CVT.

Well, it's better than him just saying RTFM N00B!!!! At least he takes the time to copy/paste it from the manual and provide helpful information. Lighten up.
