So, apparently I needed more practice parking before I took my new car into downtown Chicago. After a curb decided to get fresh with my car, this happened:

Image

As far as I can tell, this style of wheel is new for 2010 and only on the Altima Coupe 3.5 (the 2.5 has 17" wheels, not 18", and the sedan looks to have a different style). Combine that with the fact that this car isn't incredibly popular (I see 5+ Altima sedans for every coupe I see), and I gather that the chances of me finding a wheel cheap at a junk yard are slim to none.

I have considered repairing it myself, and that may be what I have to do. However, I was wondering:
  • About how much does a new replacement wheel cost?
  • About how much would professional repairs cost?
  • Does anyone have tips on replacing/repairing a wheel like this?
Thank you for your help!

Karen

I have no idea about your three questions, but the style of rim was new for the 2009 3.5 coupe, and therefore carried over to 2010. The 2.5 coupe wheels are the same as the 3.5 sedans, 17". Sorry I couldn't help, and good luck !!!!

btw, are those chips on the rim near the Nissan logo? I just want to know what I'm getting into with my new car! haha

I'm pretty sure there are alot of wheel repair shops around Chicago area, just google them and call them to give you an estimate cost. Same thing happened to me when I scratched one of my wheels, I called my local wheel repair shops (in Calgary), and they said will do it for me for $150 and I can get my wheel back the same day. But, I bought a new set of wheels instead lol!

Ah, ok, so at least there are two model years of this wheel style to work with. That's good to know.

Thankfully, that's just mud near the Nissan logo, not chips. :) All the scratching showed up lighter than the rest of the wheel in the picture; the dark stuff is just dirt. Enjoy your new car (just a little more carefully than I did, hehe)!

Hmm, $150 isn't quite as bad as I was expecting. Calling around for a few quotes is a good idea. Thank you!

just take it to a wheel repair shop. Doesn't matter if it's a small rash or big rash, they'll have to re-finish the entire surface. Costs around $100-$150 depending on the place..just make sure it's a reputable shop.

places usually charge around $100-150 per wheel for refinishing, they make them look brand new. or you can do it yourself, but you'd probably have to do all 4 rims to get the colors to match cause it won't look OEM after you repaint it. check out this guide if you want to tackle the job yourself:

That does sound like the way to go. I know I've never done this kind of work myself, and it's worth the money to know I'm not going to screw up my new car even worse. Thanks for the tip! Do you have any recommendations on how to find a good place (is there a Yelp-like website for these places, for instance)?

hehe, I think that'd be a tad more expensive than I'm looking to spend. :)

Yeah, get the wheel repaired.

Mine looked just like yours and a local place did it for $100. And... they came to my work and did it in the parking lot. An hour later it looked good as new.

this is the place I went with, and they have franchises everywhere.

Spray your wheels like a gun metal color, will look sick with the black.

Send them to liquid powder coaters and he'll fix them up like new plus he's a NICO sponsor so his price will be very fair.

Liquid Powder Coats is legit...he powder coated my grill and did an amazing job. Highly recommended!

That place sounds really good. I saw a place that'd do just the repair, paint not included, for $130 and that sounded high to me. They have quite a few franchises in Illinois, so I'll have to check them out.

Tempting... but I think I'll stick with light and shiny.

I think I found their website, but they don't show their pricing and I'm not sure how it'd work if they're in PA and I'm in IL; I don't like having my car out of commission because it's my daily driver. So far, I'm leaning toward the Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists place. Thanks, though!

I believe the site is liquidpowdercoats.net?

Just call or email Martin and tell him you are a Nico member and he will price you out. You would have to ship the wheels to him so if its your daily driver not going to work. You could also look for some local powder coating shops, drop the car on a Friday and pick it up few days later.

There are a lot of places in or near Chicago the ones that come to mind are... Wheels America (heard of through car forums), Alloy Wheel Repair (found randomly), Chicago Rim Repair (heard on the radio). Google them if you want. If you are friendly at the dealership you can always ask their service manager which place they use locally.
