My 2010 Rogue has suffered a broken 3rd tail light lens, probably due to recent hail.
A quick call to the local Nissan dealer tells me the entire unit has to be replaced at a cost of approximately $145 (US) not including replacement labor.
I'm going for some silicone sealer to keep the water out instead.

Anybody have advice for a replacement for the lens?
How difficult is it to replace the whole unit?

$145 is high. Check out Courtesy Parts http://www.courtesyparts.com/nissan-rea ... 68865.html You'll have to look at the driverside door and look at the label on the lower portion of the door jamb for the correct color code. Most are either $38.75 or $77.50 (except the Orange Alloy Metallic, which is nearly $300).

Check out this thread for details on replacing the wing/spoiler. pic-s-of-rogue-with-spoiler-and-body-si ... 31-30.html As your replacing it, rather than doing a new install, it should be fairly easy, as all the hard work's already done.

I have no spoiler.
I'm looking at replacing the 3rd brake light unit (apparently).

The P/N is 26590-1VK0A if I'm not mistaken, and it does sell for around what the dealer quoted you.

Your local junkyard aka auto parts' recycler might have a Rogue or two with an intact high mount stop lamp you can get for less :)

The only thing that stops me from going to the junkyard is the mounting gasket gets butchered during removal. :frown:
I definitely do not want damp & dirt getting inside the hatch door.
