Can you tell if the noise is comming from top end or bottom end?

The reason I ask, is if it is from the bottom end, it could be connecting rod bearings.

What octan are you using, if you use low octane, that would cause the valves to tick and possible detonation.

Also, if the temperature sensor is gone bad, it will cause the valves to tick due to the ecu to advance or retard the timing.

Keep us updated.

Good luck,

it sounds like top end i.e tapets but i'v checked the cams look good just had oil and filter change no change to the preformance just noise and smoke

been useing 95 ron

i fitted a new temp sensor when i did the head gsk could it be due to the sensor that is fitted to the exhaust cam??? when i removed it i marked it looks right??it is also smokeing it is an oil smoke too???

Hi,

I Would check the temp sensor that you installed. The CAS that plugs on the exhaust sensor will cause it if the timing isn't right where you retard the timing or advancing it.I HIGHLY recomend that you check your timing by a timing gun and make sure it is set at 15degrees DTC (15-18degrees DTC).

3000-4000rpm is in the area of rod bearings or a cracked ringland. I'm leaning more towards the rod bearings. Why did you change the headgasket in the 1st place?

Ouch, you've got my vote on that too. If you had to replace it due to coolant in the clynders, I'd check the rods pretty quick.
