Hello, I am new to this Forum and I'm looking for some advice before I bring my car into the shop if anyone has experienced my same issue. For the past two nights, when I've tried to start my 2009 Nissan Rogue S the engine wouldn't turn on and the brake warning light, charge warning light, engine oil pressure warning light, and malfunction indicator light (engine service soon) all appeared. When this occurred last night I simply restarted the car and it ran fine until I attempted to accelerate from a long stop light. No matter how much pressure I put on the gas, the acceleration from stop was extremely slow and gradual. Tonight was my first attempt at driving since the incident last night and I had the same engine failure with warning lights. After restart, I put my car in reverse and it went about a foot before completely stalling. I restarted it once more, pulled out, and found that my car stayed at 5mph for 30 seconds or so before a slow acceleration to 20mph. I drove it around my complex to see if I would have any other issues after the slow start and it seemed fine. I am wondering if my car would be able to make the drive to school tomorrow before I bring it to the shop or if I should bring it in immediately. If anyone knows what the heck is going on here please respond!

Are you seeing any warning lights on the dash while the engine is running and the acceleration is poor? If you're getting only the battery light and brake light while the engine is running and no other lights, that's your alternator. Do your headlights or radio flicker at the same time, like they're struggling to get power?

If it's not that, it could be a bad air/fuel mixture caused by fuel injectors, dirty air filter, dirty throttle, dirty air intake valve, etc. This would explain the stall-outs.

Otherwise, it sounds like CVT limp mode to me, but I would explore other possibilities first, since that usually doesn't occur immediately upon a cold start.

Thanks for your response! The warning lights only show when the engine fails to start after I put the key in the ignition and turn. Once I retry and get the engine going there are no warning lights up at all and it doesn't seem like I'm losing any power. I did notice that when I am able to start the engine, it takes a couple seconds longer to start up than usual if that makes sense. Like I hear the difference while I'm turning the key as if it's struggling to turn on. I am glad you mentioned the air filter problem because that's exactly what my family thinks it is. We shall see!

Warning lights only matter when the engine is running. When you have the ignition in the ON position without the engine running, all the lights are supposed to come on.

I actually realized that earlier when I was on the way to bring it in. Really silly of me but besides that Goodyear guys don't think it's the air filter though they are replacing it. I'm getting a diagnostic done so hopefully they find out something and don't gip me. Thanks again

Picked up my car from Goodyear Saturday after they did not find any problem with my parts. They made some adjustments and I left with my car running smoothly. This morning was the first time I've driven it again and had the same problems. Wont start the first time, starts the second time, stalled in reverse, and can't get any acceleration from stop. I let the car sit for 2 hours before driving it again and the only thing I got was the failed start then perfect acceleration the rest of the day. The only thing I can think of now is that I have a bad batch of gas since all these things started after I filled up my tank from empty. Something to also note: there was a heavy and unusual freeze/ sleet storm the day before the problems began which is extremely uncommon down here in the South. Also, I've been putting 93 in my car for 4.5 years now though the manual recommends 87. I have heard from outside sources that this may be whats causing the issue. Why it took so long for the problems to surface I do not know..any insight?
