Hey! If anyone can throw us some more ideas please do. On Tues 12/13 my car refused to start. We attempted to jump it to no avail. It refused to turn over. Finally got it towed back to our house. We had the battery tested and it came back as good but upon further inspection there was a battery acid leak on the top. So we replaced the battery as well as the positive terminal since it was extremely corroded. Cranked right up. Until the next day while we are out. This time we were able to jump it and it cranked up. Until we got home and turned it off and it refused to start again. Checked all the fuses and alternator but were not able to test the starter where we where so we just bought a new one guessing this was the problem. Negative. It will not turn over. The SES light was on and upon having these read it indicated an issue with the Crank shaft position sensor, the cam shaft position sensor (both of these we also replaced with no result) as well as the transmission control module and the canister vent valve. We have not done anything with the second two yet. So we have a new battery, new terminal, new starter and new crank and cam sensors. Still nothing. It has now been a week. We live in Texas so the weather is warmer. It was in the seventies when this started and it is in the 30-40's now but not sure if that is the issue at the moment. I have scoured these forums and have not found anything that might lead me in a better direction yet. All help and advice is appreciated.

Put a battery charger on it for several hours or even overnight. It would be good to disconnect the battery from the cables during charging. It sounds to me like your battery is not charging which would indicate an alternator problem not a stater problem.

Get a multi meter (<$20 at Walmart) . Sitting in the driveway not running your new battery should read 12.6 or 12.7 fully charged. If it will start after charging the battery let it run for a couple of minutes and put the multi meter back on the battery post while the car is running. It should now read 14.2 or so. That would mean your alternator is charging your battery properly. Less than 14 and you should replace the alternator.

If you put the multi meter on that new battery before you charge it and it reads 12.2-3 that's a weak discharged battery that will probably start your car in warm weather but not cold. A dead battery will read 11. something or other.

We tested the alternator and it was reading fine but I will have him give this a shot anyway since when we first had the battery tested it was reading fine too but then we discovered the acid leak. Can't hurt to try. Thanks for the tip.

When I go to start it all of the dash lights come on. When we had the headlights on and try to start it they dim so we know it is drawing power from somewhere but we can't seem to figure out where. My husband is a diesel mechanic and is having a really hard time trying to figure this out. I am hoping to be able to avoid having to take it to a dealership if possible.

Have you gotten it started yet? If not, is it a crank but no start on a charged battery? Can you post a picture of the dashboard with the lights lit? I just dealt with a 2008 Rogue S like this and was able to get it running again.
