My daughter was driving down the highway and the traffic came to a standstill. She stopped and when the traffic started moving again, she pressed the gas and the car had LOW power like only moving at walking pace. She pulled over and turned the engine off, then called a wrecker. I was able to meet her before the wrecker got there and was able to start the car, but again, it would only move at walking pace. There was also no power steering.

This made me suspect a bad alternator, but if it was, I should still be able to drive the car for about 5-10 minutes on battery power. Also there was no battery light on.
I started thinking about all the possibilities and the more I thought about it, the more I got perplexed. Like the engine seems to run fine, but no power.

NOTE: When I pressed the gas, the engine did not rev up. So that made me think about things like bad Throttle Position Sensor, Bad gas pedal, etc...
But then what baffles me is the fact that there is no power steering.

I decided to just have it towed to the Nissan Dealer. Any ideas what it could be?
BY THE WAY.. while they are fixing it, should I have the pulley replaced? It has about 150,000 miles. ( part# 19107108).
This is not the tensioner, just the idler pulley.

checked fuses?
no power might mean some issues in transmission - like torque converter gone bad...
anyway - if that was my car I would start with some obd2 stuff - and try to compare it to known good data.

Sounds like the CVT went into limp mode.

The CVT going bad was another thing I wondered about, but if the CVT went bad, why is there no power steering?

FYI, dealer said it was a bad alternator and bad battery.

Never had both go out at the same time.
But still don't understand why when i started the car, the battery light was not on!

may be some kind of "short"/power spike - killed your powerassisted steering and alternator and battery...? that might explain their death at the same time... but it would mean that you _need_ to diagnose it further... because, otherwise, it will again those two new thingies (alternator and battery).

Well, got the car back yesterday and so far so good.
