Hi everyone!

I'm new to the forum as I just bought my first Nissan last week! Love it so far (coming from a Saturn Vue so the Rogue is a pretty big upgrade). The model I bought was just the base model without any options. I am really missing the outside temperature gauge (crazy that it's not stock). I am wondering if it is possible to buy the ambient temp sensor and plug it into the factory harness. From what I've been able to read in the owners manual, the temp gauge is just over the gear indicator. Would plugging the sensor in "activate" the display? I've done some reading and couldn't find a clear yes or no on the matter. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi all, I just picked up a 2009 Rogue SL and have a quick question for you folks. Should this vehicle be displaying outside air temperature in the gauge cluster? It is an SL, but does NOT have the premium package... Canadian model if that makes any difference. I've read some things that say that the 2009 SL has outside temp/DTE/fuel efficiency/etc. (whereas the 2009 S does not), but others that say you need the premium package. It's a stupid thing to have an issue with, but for some reason I've become accustomed to seeing temp/fuel efficiency and now it's bothering me.

My guess is that since I'm not seeing it at the top of the gauge display, it's not (and never will be) there... just a bit confused and hopeful because some things I've read say that the 2009 SL has those features.

Anyone able to help me get this sorted out?

Thanks!

Thanks - unfortunately it leaves me a bit more confused because that says that the 2009 SL DOES have external temp and multi-functional info centre, but all I get when I press the button is Trip A/Trip B. And to add to it, I do have all of the other "additional features" that are listed there (i.e. body-colored mirrors, aluminum rims, 2 x 12V outlets, etc.).

Anyone else out there have a '09 SL without the temp display and trip computer?

Are you positive your Rogue is the SL trim level? Owners have been known to buy the lettering off ebay and slap it on the vehicle, to pass of their base model as a more expensive trim level.

Here's a link to the 2009 Nissan Rogue Owners Manual: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q= ... 0622,d.eXY

Details of instrument panel layout.

try putting your VIN # in here and see what model it says you have.

The mystery continues... putting the VIN into that decoder says that it's an S (not an SL), but I'm fairly certain that no one slapped an SL onto the body seeing as I bought it used from a family member who bought the vehicle new from a Nissan dealership.

From the list of additional features on the cargurus website it seems to have all of the SL features with the exception of the Instrumentation features.

Ahh, should have done a SEARCH first. There are a couple of possible answers.

1) The problem is a damaged or missing temp sensor. Outside Temp Display Problem

2)

I have the 2008 SL WITH leather package. It's fully loaded, with everything.
3) It's possible the previous owner had switched out a bad instrument panel and it was incorrectly replaced with an S model.

My monies on the first one.

I did do some searching and actually came across the post about SL not being fully loaded, just seems that I have a mix... DO have heated seats (cloth), don't have XM, etc. I believe that post was referring to the 08 model year.

Reading up on the post about the damaged/missing temp sensor, unfortunately I don't think that's the problem either. the ICY indicator is not on, the AC works fine, and there are no dashes where the temp should be... also, there's no distance to empty/MPG/etc.

I've asked the previous owner and the instrument panel was never switched out either.

Strange... It's looking to me like it has an S instrument panel, I just don't know why.

I have the 2009 SL AWD with the Tech Package. I do have temp/ distance to empty/ ICY. So maybe it was just with the Tech package. You could try calling Nissan USA and see what they say.

When you turn the key to ON or ACC and the dash lights up do you see where it could say ICY or Temp?

I'm able to see where it could say ICY and show the temp (and show gas mileage), but they don't actually light up when the key is turned. I'm assuming Nissan used the same cluster for all trim levels, and depending on what features you have certain items will light up.

Definitely don't have the tech package on this vehicle... no bluetooth, doesn't have the Bose speakers, etc.

I'll try getting in touch with Nissan to see if they can help me get this figured out.

Didn't get any useful information from calling Nissan... they just said that I could take it to a dealership and pay an assessment charge to have them look at it. I took a look at postings for other 2009 SLs and did find a couple that seem to match mine (SLs with the same features that I have but pics of the odometer reading don't show any temp).

Just gonna have to live with no outside temp and fuel efficiency info, I'll survive!

Sorry to hear that. I was really hoping for a more positive outcome. I'm wondering if the wiring is there, but the sensor isn't because it wasn't considered part of your trim level. Just for giggles, look at the FSM and check your vehicle to see if the wiring's there. I'm curious if it is, could you add the sensor (and I suppose the corresponding fuse/relay) and it would work? Just a thought...

Not a bad idea, I think I'll give that a shot. A quick search shows some other people asking the same question, but no follow up answers. Might be a project for the weekend to see if the wiring is there, if it is it would be a pretty low cost job to add a sensor and fuse... instrument panel may or may not need to be updated at a dealership though. I'll be sure to post here once I have a chance to look at this.
