2009 Rogue SL 175,000 miles

Some time ago, I was working on my daughter's car and notice oil coming from a strange place. I believe it was V-Star that said it is the oil cooler.
Today, when I was changing the oil, I noticed it was a bit worse. I plan to change the oil cooler the next time I change the oil (about 3-4 months).

I have a few questions.
1) Is this easy to do? Looks like I can only get to it from the bottom or from the passenger side with wheel removed.

2) I looked on RockAuto and there are no oil coolers, just the cooler gasket. Is this all I need to do, or should I go ahead and get the oil cooler and gasket while I am at it?

3) What about the 2 hoses? Should I replace those too? I squeezed one hose and it seemed flexible. My main concern is disconnecting the hose might damage them.

Anything else I should be aware of?

I just now found a YouTube video by TRQ. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELMOjP5AkE4&t=282s

I have a 3rd question. What is that "sensor" that he removed? (go to 3:30 on the video and he points at it).
I tried look up Temperature sensor and Oil Sensor and neither one shows up as being located on the oil cooler.
If I am going to replace the cooler, I feel I might as well get a new "sensor".

Don't know if this is similar but early on my 08 rogue I had a leak fixed by dealer and they said it was the orings. They took the pan off to get to it.

The gen1 Rogues don't have an oil pressure sensor, just a low pressure switch which is read by the IPDM and drives the idiot light in the cluster by way of a CAN signal. That's the switch shown in the video. The part number is 25240-4M40E (current) or 25240-4M400 (superseded).

Thank you VStar !!
I decided to go ahead get a new Oil Cooler, gasket, and new Pressure Switch (pointed out by you).

One more question...
What about the cooler hoses? (21306-JG30A and 21306-JG31A)
Should I replace these? I did squeeze one of them and it seemed flexible (not brittle).

In other words, how likely are the hoses to go bad?

Same likelihood as any other coolant hose. If you don't feel any soft or hard spots and there's no evidence of cracking, my personal philosophy is not to fix what isn't broken.

Ok. Thanks for your input.
I will just get the oil cooler and the switch.

I find it strange that all the videos I watched shows them draining the oil.
This is not necessary is it?
I just changed the oil last weekend, and if I happen to need to change the oil cooler next month... I'd rather not drain the oil.

I know I need to drain the coolant.

You don't need to drain the oil if you don't mind a little mess. Just top off the small amount you'll lose when the job is done.

WOW... Ok thanks for the info.
I am just surprised. I would have thought all the oil would drain into the oil pan and very little would come out of the oil cooler. Maybe like 1/8th cup.

Exactly. You'll get a small mess, not a big one.

Job Done... VStar - Thank you for the info about all of this.

PS. the job was not really that hard. Just time consuming because the hoses were hard to reach and disconnect.

You replaced with a new oil cooler assembly and the mounting gasket? Looked like it would be simple to repair/reseal your oem cooler with a new "o ring"
