I think you would want to ensure that the vehicle is inspected by a mechanic you trust.
You should also examine the service history so that you are aware of what routine maintenance would be expected (based on mileage and what has been ignored). For example, Nissan recommends a brake flush every 15,000 miles. And, as many vehicles go without routine maintenance, I would budget for this. As well as the usual - air filter, cabin filter, etc. You will want to ensure wear items like the drive belt are examined. If you go to a Nissan dealer, you should ask what you can expect to learn about the vehicle from their scan tool (CONSULT) because it can tell you a large variety of things.
If you can find out whether the previous owner(s) towed with the Rogue, it will help determine whether you should be considering a change of the CVT fluid. While Nissan has a computer to tell you fluid life, you will pay for this and unless it is thrown in with another service package you are getting there, it may be worthwhile to just change the fluid rather than pay a large diagnostic fee. Your Rogue may qualify for the free extended warranty from Nissan on the CVT (10 years / 100K), so might be worth talking to the dealer about that if you end up seeing them.
You will want to check for accelerated wear/tear around the interior rocker panels (where the door molding on the bottom meets the body). Rogues are notorious for holding rocks inside and chipping/scratching this, which can cause rust. While not a show stopping by any means, you may want to consider protecting this area with 3M film or something else to prevent any further chipping/rusting.
Personally, I do not think there is much different on the Rogue to check than any other vehicle. It uses an engine and transmission that are common across Nissan vehicles with many years behind them. While there are fit/finish/quality issues, those are as apparent as any other vehicle.
Again, I think the biggest mistake people make is not getting the car inspected before they buy it, then being surprised AFTER they buy it and take it for an oil change (or some other routine maintenance). You should consider if you want to catch up on the routine maintenance, and negotiate with that. If you vehicle needs $1000 in deferred maintenance, you should be able to get a reduction in price easily because the Rogue is so popular there will be a lot of them for sale, especially in the trim level you want (if you wanted a base S model that is FWD, selection might be more limited).
