I guess I became overconfident after successfully switching out the front drive axle in less than thirty minutes and am now at my wits end trying to remove the rear driver side CV axle on my Rogue. I've removed the axle nut and several connections around the wheel assembly believing that I would be able to remove the axle. However, I can't get the axle to budge after hammering and can't figure out what to loosen to get some wiggle room to get the axle out.

Any specific help or direction to a resource that will help would be much appreciated by me AND my wife (her car).
(YouTube seems to be full of videos that only deal with the front axle).

Thanks!
Scot

with what step are you having problems with? are you trying to remove the axle from the hub, or the rear carrier(differential).

from your description i am guessing, its hard to get the axle out from the hub. soak it in penetrating oil & apply heat. but dont burn the hub because you could damage the bearing.

So you are having a problem seperating the axle from the hub?

You can use a hammer/wood to seperate them, however the other method is to use a puller. You might be able to get one from a local parts shop as many have a loan-a-tool program for these sort of specialize tools. The puller would be the easiest way to remove them, it's just most people do not have one.

there are some instances where an axle will NOT come off. some need a press, and some simply need to be thrown out with the hub still attached. you gotta realize when to cut your losses, and move on. time is money.

i for one, never really stress about replacing parts, with new ones. with todays aftermarket parts being often better than OEM ones; think of it as God helping you, to never return to this area again. i'd check and replace the brakes while i was already that deep into taking apart the knee/spindle.

example:
i needed 1 new front caliper. do you know what i ended up replacing?
2 new calipers
2 new rotors
2 sets of pads
clean and re-greased everything as needed.
i have not had to come back to brake issues for over a while LOL
(i used all brand new store & ebay bought parts)

I appreciate your responses. I've been able to remove the axle nut and pin and drive the axle shaft back out of that assembly. I have also successfully pried the inner part of the axle from the DI so that the entire axle is actually loose now. I specifically can't figure out how to loosen the wheel/hub assembly enough to get the axle out and the new one in.

disconnect all the connections.
mark all the bolts, so you can put them back in the same spot - so you wont need an alignment afterwards.
