I have a 2009 Nissan Murano LE. When I'm driving, randomly the windshield wipers will activate with one swipe. I cannot associate this behavior with any event. The rain sensor feature is not turned on. I've looked through the manual and cannot find anything associated with this behavior. Anybody have any ideas what's causing this? BTW, I love my 2009 Murano. It's a pleasure to drive and my LE is very luxurious and feature loaded.

First off, welcome to NICOclub! Glad you could join us here in the Murano forum!

Sorry to hear about your troubles! I have NEVER heard of the wipers coming on like that for no reason. Are you 100% sure you don't have them on? That is the only thing I can think of. If they are on, and it is not raining, they will swipe very infrequently from the build up of dust or dirt on the windshield. If everything looks fine, I would call the dealer and get it checked out, that should NOT be happening! Good luck and keep us informed of the outcome.

It happens to my '09 also. I have mine set to come on automatically when it senses rain. I have noticed that it will do the one swipe routine almost every time when I pass under a bridge. It usually does this on bright sunny days and of course going under the bridge it is very shady, so I assumed that it was somehow related to the difference in a sensor going from a very bright situation to a dark situation, which surprised me sense I assumed that wipers would be activated by moisture.

I can understand them swiping if the rain sensor is turned on. The manual even lets you know that they may come on if there is dust on the windshield. However, living in Denver where rain is an infrequent event, I don't have the rain sensor turned on.

I called the dealer's service dept. today and they didn't have clue about this. They could not find any TSBs related to it either. I guess I'll pay more attention to the conditions when it occurs and then leave the car with the dealer for a little troubleshooting.

Mine occasionally come on too whenever I start my vehicle but never while I'm driving. The rain sensor itself could be partially malfunctioning. It's the intermittent problems that are the worst to solve.
