I bought my Murano in May of 2008. I have a home in a rural area which is one of the reasons I wanted AWD. Fast forward to Saturday January 31, 2009. I pulled into my drive with 12" of snow. I slid sidways into a snowdrift and the Murano would not "rock" or even spin a wheel. It is Friday February 6, 2009 and I am still "stuck". I called the dealer where I purchased the Murano and they told me that some snow must be packed underneath the vehicle.

When trying to free the vehicle, it won't rev beyond 2500 to 3000 RPM and will not spin a wheel!!!! Not much to say for AWD.

Anyone with a similar problem? I sure would like to hear more than "wait for a thaw." or get it towed in. The dealer said they had two Muranos towed in and when thawed they found no problem.

Welcome to NICOclub! Glad to have you visiting the Murano Forum.

No doubt the Murano is very sure-footed in snow and ice. However, I could easily see it getting stuck in a drift of snow deeper than 12". Chances are with the warm weather coming this weekend, you might be able to dislodge the vehicle then. Otherwise you may be looking for a tow.

It won't rev past 2500-3000rpm because you have the VDC on (traction-control). The computer senses the wheels spinning and automatically turns the engine brake on to cut power to thsoe wheels. Reach down on the left hand panel (by your knee) and push it off...you'll see the light come on on the dashboard.

You will then be free to rev it as much as you need and be able to really work your way out of that snow. Make sure you lock the AWD on as well...that'll help a lot.

By the way...I just noticed you are in Greenwood, IN. I live about 25 minutes south of you...we got hit by that same 10"-12" of snow last week and I had absolutely NO issues getting around. In fact...I have a buddy with a jacked-up 4x4 who likes pulling cars out of trouble. I went out looking to get the Murano stuck (or at least test its limits) in the snow with him as my backup in case I need it. Not only was I surprised at how much snow it could handle (went down some unplowed roads with drifts etc...but I never ended up getting it stuck.

I'm sorry to hear of your challenge in the snow..

Being almost 50, and owning a ton of different cars and trucks. From Roadrunners and Supras (bad bad bad in the snow) to F-250s and Ramchargers 4X4. I cannot give the AWD system enough praise. The first being a Chrysler Town and Country.

Living on the west side of the Cascades Mountains, we get alot of the very wet snow here. (needless to talk about all the rain). Traveling to the east side of the Mountains, its very dry snow, and icy.

The Mo, hands down , is the best bad weather car I've ever driven..

The worst in the snow: Toyota 2wd Previa . Loved it the rest of the time.
