If anyone has any logical explanation, I'd appreciate the help as this is eating me up.

I love my 2009 Nissan Maxima - loaded with Premium + Technology packages.I've had virtually no real problems with the car, except today, which I still have no idea what's going on. Having no idea is odd for me, especially since I'm a software developer. I'm very savvy with User Interfaces, etc.

But when I went downstairs this morning to go to work, seeing all 4 windows open on my Maxine (yes, she has a name :-) scared the crap out of me. Not that I was worried that it was broken into; rather, how could the car have misbehaved & had a mind of its own to go & open all 4 windows - plus, how long have they been open?!?! My wife left to work 3 hours before & thinks she saw them closed. Plus, I've been SO cautious with this car that I'd NEVER let a mistake like that happen the night before.

Anyways, I found out that if you hold down UNLOCK on the remote, windows open. I don't understand the necessity for a feature like this, especially when you need to power on the car to close them. However, I'm still not convinced that they opened that way, mainly because I didn't hit the unlock button. I use the handle button.

After getting home from work tonight, yet another computer mishap - Usually clicking 'Lock' on the handle is followed by two beeps. Pressing it twice on the remote releases a short horn honk. Tonight, neither happened. The lights flashed & doors locked, but no audio confirmation from the car.

Am I missing something or is Maxine an Autobot?

Does unlock drop all 4 windows on the '09? On older Nissans it only does the front windows. If it does roll all four down, I'd suspect it's still related to the remote. I've seen a few cases of Nissan owners finding their windows down, and it seems they're all related to accidentally holding the unlock button (maybe leaning against something with the remote in your pocket, or something along those lines).

As for the honk upon locking, that can be disabled in the car's settings. But of course that requires someone to disable it.

Thanks for the reply. Yep; it's for all four.

It's a longshot; while in my apartment on the third floor & sleeping on my couch, I guess my leg could have put pressure on the keys.

Actually, believe it or not, doing this is easier than you'd think too. It's not in my navigation's settings for the car, like everything else is.

Rather, I figured out that if you hold down both the LOCK & UNLOCK buttons for a few seconds at the same time (on the Maxima's key remote), it ENABLES / DISABLES both the beep & horn honk that one would hear when they lock their car via remote.

So, when disabled, hitting the LOCK button won't make any noise, but should still flash the lights on the car like it did before.

I had the exact same experience this morning! Also, almost had a heart attack. I have no idea how this could have happened. The keys were just sitting on the table. Any other thoughts? Could someone else's keyfob do it somehow?

Borg;

You've convinced me that my suspicion is most probably a reality.I am willing to BET that there is a very rarely replicating bug in the car's vehicle control system which is somehow dropping the windows as a trigger of some sort of event.

Mine hasn't done this since the morning I posted this thread. But I've been extra careful and as a software engineer wouldn't be surprised if something weird like this was happening.

I just hope that if anyone else experiences this that we all get together & make sure that Nissan knows about this so that they can immediately release an update to the vehicle control system.

Anything is certainly possible, but most of the time this is caused by the intelligent key being triggered. Perhaps it was triggered before you put the key on the table? Has this happened more than once?

Emailed my service guy this am. Opening the windows is a feature of the unlock button on the keyfob. He also says that another RF signal (another keyfob, cell phone etc.) could do it and that it can be reprogrammed if necessary. I did test the "hold the unlock" feature, and the two keyfobs opened the windows to different degrees. Mine opened the front all the way, and the back almost all the way, while the other one only opened them a couple inches...odd.

While others called me crazy that day, this is exactly what I believed happened.

A similar steady frequency could have been interpreted by my Maxine (yes, I named her) as a command to open windows. At least she behaves like a good b****.

What am I saying, she's a car, not a dog.
