I'm so sick of hearing how the new Maxima is taking the Maxima back to it's sport roots.

NO.

IT.

IS.

NOT.

The Maxima went back to it's roots in 2004. And it left again in 2007. And it kept right on leaving without looking back in 2009.

I don't know what universe these reviewers all live in, but apparently it's one where the third-gen Maxima went after the Buick Century and not the BMW 3 series.

Wood trim, minivan-style dash designs, and CVT transmissions are not sport sedan trademarks. They are fogeymobile and hybrid trademarks.

If you like the '09 Max, that's awesome. But please stop acting like it's the return of the 4DSC. It doesn't matter how many stickers Nissan puts on it, stickers can't bend reality.

I feel like the Maxima needs to be bigger. It needs a manual transmission and it needs the good ol' RE5 back in place of the massively inappropriate CVT.It needs a more "cockpit" style interior. It also needs to be bigger. And it needs to be less small. It needs a VQ35HR under the hood. Or a VQ37VHR.

I find it highly amusing that Nissan often mentions that they have to be careful to separate the Altima and Maxima model lines, then at the same time go and reduce the Maxima's size to match the Altimas. Which is it, Nissan? Make up your minds.

When was the last time a BMW sold with a CVT?G37?

Yeah. And the Maxima shouldn't have one either. I HATE that stupid CVT. Nissan's determination to push it on the world is getting in the way of them producing good cars. Nissan are retards. They run the RE4 for TWENTY YEARS, then finally replace it with something better except OH WAIT NO, we can't have a normal transmission. We can't have people driving cars with an automatic that's actually worth something. No, instead have this stupid CVT because we have to do something with it. The RE5 lasted 3 whole years in the Max before getting axed.

Sadly today all these new catchy technologies sell, whether they work or not. If a normal consumer sees "CVT" he/she thinks they're getting more bang for their buck and thus will buy it.

However I'd rather the sporty feel less so on the power end. I'd rather a lighter car that doesn't have as much body roll. Tighten down the sports model and give more feel to the steering. Once the response is there you get the sporty feeling. That's what makes the Altima feel sporty, the crisp turn in. That's one of my biggest gripes with my 4th gen (i30t) is the body roll. I supposedly have the sports/touring package and my car feels like its going to flip over through any tight corner.

If you want a 4dsc, give it the features of the old 350z or better the new 370. Give it the stability, the new fancy manual transmission, and drop in the vq35hr like Minister said. Cut the crap and stick to the basics, Nissan needs to get its head out of the gutter with all the new tech crap.

If people want a small sedan, they can buy an Altima. The Maxima is supposed to be big. The Maxima has ALWAYS been big...until now. The 6th gen handles great despite it's size and does not suffer from excessive body roll. The 7th gen might handle a bit better, but it's missing to many of the other pieces.
