Has anyone ever tried to switch out the Apple interface on the 2009 to a USB?

I am actually just looking for something to charge a phone, but music control connection would be great too.

Thanks for the quick response, I am actually looking at taking out the Apple interface all together. I would prefer a USB interface like in the 2010+ models.
