New member here, about to pull the trigger on '08 M35 with tech and sport.I am coming from a '06 Porsche Cayenne S. I feel the engine in the M is slightly underpowered with 5 speed. anyone know if the '09 M35 will change engine power and trannie like the G37. I have heard rumors that the next version of the M is called the M37anythoughtsthanksscott

It came out in 06 so dont expect anything until 2010/2011 which is when they are going to change anything major on the M. The 2009 probably get some minor interior changes and exterior changes nothing major. if the v6 is underpowered, why not move up to the M45?.

I purchased an '08 M35 last month, and am disappointed in the performance of the V6. The low end torque is horrible, and the five speed transmission just accentuates this deficiency. At speed the car is very nice, but in traffic, the six just doesn't have the smooth response of a V8 in the low RPM range.

The car is very nice and has a lot of great features. It seem to be well built and is quite comfortable, but the engine is just not matched to the weight of the car.

I suggest that you drive one for more than the typical short demo ride prior to purchase.

Well the v6 might be underpowered, but at the time of release it had the best in class v6 and v8 power. if you think thats underpowered try a 5 series BMW with thier v6 you have the choice of a 215/230/250HP which really blow and Mercedes E class get 230/268, and these engine make pathetic low end torque. To top it off thier Base model lowest engines and no option still will cost about 10 grand more over a nicely loaded M35. You guys are being unfair to the v6 and trying to compare it to a V8, when all you needed to do was get a m45

OP here,

I am passing on the M35.........M45 is all me. I am coming from the V8 in the Cayenne S and know I would regret a V6, esp since the gas mileage diff is so small. Now what color, leaning towars liquid plat or slate blue.cya Also, saw this in Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I...later

Thanks for the replies to my OP

Are you joking ? This car is geared to climb trees - the v6 is *always* in the powerband and the punch at any speed is amazing. It's OK to want a 6-speed to reduce the highway rpms and get better mileage, but I can't fathom your comments about torque. There's just no way to lug this motor the way it's geared.

exbmw,

Exactly my point. You can't "lug" the V6 because it is geared low to overcome the lack of torque.

Again, I agree that the M is a very nicely appointed and finished car. It just should not be offered with the V6, and the difference in price for the M45 is not worth it in my opinion, but I now wish that I had swallowed my pride and just bought the M45. Too late now. I don't even want to think of the hit I would take turning over my M35 with 300 miles on it, so I'm stuck with it for a while.

Oh well, there are worse things to be stuck with!

I guess that I am just a V8 guy. Unfortunately, they are becoming quite rare, and I am sure that they will all but disappear in the not too distant future.

I would get the liquid platinum over the blue slate...not sure what your dealer has in stock but this is how i would go with the colors, 1st choice - liquid platinum, then black, then platinum graphite, then white, then nothing else.

If you're disappointed with the '08 M35, you only have yourself to blame for not properly comparing before pulling the trigger. However, if you had driven the Mercededs E350, BMW 528, Audi A6, or Acura RL for comparison, I can't imagine where your disappointment is coming from. Then again, websites like this are filled with whiners.

I just got the '08 M35 Sport/Tech/Wood two weeks ago and I'm having a ball with it. No need to the V8 IMO; I can get around as quickly as I need to, and the various lower costs of the M35 made this an easy decision.

OK, so we all know your preference, and you've made it clear that you would never drive a non-gray scale painted automobile....

I didn't see anyone asking for color recommendations - an entirely subjective issue, but I've had platinum/silver, black, pearl white, quartz grey, and dark green cars, and decided to get the slate blue this time because its different, rich looking, far less common, and I always do 24 months leases which afford me the luxury of a different car quite regularly.I've had several people comment on how beautiful the color is already, something that never happened with my black, silver or grey cars.

Scottjays, as you can see, even an upscale car like the M attracts idiots and jerks. I hope my responses were helpful.

how are you having Sirius installed? XM traffic/Navi/integration seems to exclude the option of Sirius (which I too prefer to XM)
