Minutes ago I drove one. 3.7 Liter V6. 328hp. 7 speed auto. 70mph in the time it takes to go through a childhood memory flashback. It is fast. Very. And it shifts so smoothly. I thought the new generation 5spd was a smooth shifter... This one shifts so smoothly you can barely follow it. And it has 6 setting seat heaters. Better than HIGH and LOW only. The doors lock when you get to 10mph so no one hops out of their BMW to rob you. And the G37x on a Sedan is a head turner too. If you haven't already, Go drive one.

Dude...

I hate you!

Why can't I work at an Infiniti dealership and have fun with the new stock.

Question: Is the ride more geared towards luxury or handling?

I won't be able to afford one of these for a few years, but it's definitely on my "possible next car" list. Everything else just looks like junk.

Maybe one day, I'll be rolling around in a TT G37x sedan with my son in the back seat going "pssss-pssss"

(Let's not forget a wide-body FD in the garage- Tokyo drift got me )

Well the G was redone in 07 to both handle better and ride better. It does both. The X has the softer suspension. Its solid, and rides very well. Its comfortable but still corners very well. I hate to say it corners AND rides better than my 04. But the 09 feels the same as the 07 and 08. Why mess with success? Judging from the transmission gearing and rpm dropoff, The first 5 gears are definitely for performance, closely spaced, so its always at an economic rpm, and 6th is high overdrive, with 7th being shifted into at about 40mph on gentle throttle. I believe the spec sheet shows 5th gear being direct drive, as opposed to 4th on the 5spd transmission, so you have 4 torque multiplication gears, so it will accelerate strongly at any speed in its first 4 gears. I love it. I want one. Someone give me 20grand.

Hear that everybody?

Poyzinous gets 09 G37x for $20k!!!

lol. The suspension and all season tires on the 07/08 loaners I drove were a little too soft for my taste, but both can be fixes easily hehehe.

I didn't drive the xS, just a plain old x, but love it. It is fantastic.

+1 09 G37s FTMFW

A former member and I took one for a ride when the first 37xS came in. I agree the ride is like none of the highline luxury cars I have driven. The new models I think will finally make Infiniti the true leader of the pack. Finally BMW. All new models have their hiccups and I feel the majority of forum traffic focuses on the negative things about owning one of these cars. That is one of the things that separates this G forum from not only Nico forums or other G boards. Lexus jumped to eight before we had six and that didn't work so well. Nissan waits a few years and perfects the technology. They didn't reinvent the wheel, they added to what works. Mercedes.... They're just to pricey, and they all ride weird, they do however manage to stuff 600hp into everything they make. If you have the budget than there are other options out there. Unless it's an SLR Mmmmmmm SLR

I testdrove one. It isn't much different from the 08. Shifts feel faster. However it is much smoother than the 07. 07 had the touchy throttle. To me so far that's the best. Doesn't mean it is faster but dang you felt the kick much more. My 08 feels lot smoother and the 09 a bit even smoother.

Side note. I never realized the door auto lock. Is it just me being stupid not realizing it or it is an option to turn off/on? Probably justr me being a donkey and did not realize it.

I want to tesdrive a coupe for awhile with AWD but never made it to the dealer. Maybe in few weeeks I have to get my oil changed than I go for a nice long ride.

Drove one last weekend and picking up mine Sat. morning

I was on my way to a Pontiac dealership planning on making a deal for a G8 GT, I stopped at an Infiniti dealership along the same strip on a whim. I thought a G37 was about 5k out of my range, but the figure they put in front of me for an 09 G37x sedan w/premium pkg. almost made me fall out of my chair. $34695. I added the sport and navigation pkgs. for another 3k.

My current car is a 96 A4 Quattro (I love her but I deserve a new car after 13 years!) and my first inclination was to get another Audi. I drove the 09 A4 and was disappointed at any configuration under $45k.

Can't wait until Sat.

Thanks, I'd love to take credit for a good deal but the dealer's large inventory and our buckling economy are the real reasons. I didn't haggle, that was the first price they put in front of me.

Like I earlier said, check out this website to see the reliability rating for many cars out there.

http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/

The G, even the older ones, have a lot less problems than the Lexus mercedes, BMW, rivals.

The G-37 X auto transmission, is probably the same technology in the FX50. It is so smooth and well coordinated. You will probably think it has CVT technology in it.

Pretty much everything at infiniti will get the new 7 speed. But CVT may never come to infiniti, as the transmission cant withstand more than 300 ftlbs of torque. Maybe in a FWD if there ever is one, or in a hybrid 4cyl infiniti. I hope Nissan brings back the 240sx as a 250sx, and stretches it for infiniti to be a G25, so the 1 series BMW can get its butt kicked too. 200 hp 4cyl RWD? The TSX will also shake in its girly boots.

I would not say never in regard to a CVT in a car with engines that Infiniti offers presently. At one time it probably could not withstand 25 ft. lbs. of torque and now it is sitting in the Maxima. I would think that if a version of the CVT were put into an Infiniti it may not be a good fit in something like the 'G' simply because it would not fit the lifestyle of its typical owner, not because it could not withstand the mechanical stresses.

I like the CVT that I do own, however I find it like driving an electric car and probably would go that route as the next vehicle for my wife if and when one comes out that I like a lot better than the current crop.

I drove the new 2009 maxima and I had no feelings after the drive---nice interior but soulless. I took it through a twisty and I thought it was going to fall over. i had to slow down

I whooped a 2009 maxima on my secret track a few months ago. It could not keep up when it came to handling with the G. The G and 350Z are kings on twisties. They are not the best drag cars without modifications.

Congrats on the new ride and Great deal. It's a buyers market. Welcome to Nico

As for CVT in any Infiniti I lol'd. Not anytime in the near future. The CVT that Nissan uses is a FWD setup and the I cannot think of a way they would be able to use the metal drum and band design in a RWD setup. That is not to say if they were ever to take a step back and offer a FWD or FWD based AWD system (highly unlikely since the ATTESSA system works so well) like the Rogue. Nissan offers Infiniti like amenities in most of it's line, although the appointments are not quite Infiniti, they are pretty close.

They need to define the two separate brands, and move away from just the fancy Nissans and establish themselves as a different car. They set them selves ahead when they dropped the Nissan crossover models (G20(although not a USDM Nissan) and I30/35) and defined themselves as a RWD performance based luxury brand for those of means.

A hybrid G is in the cards as is an EX or FX although that may be farther off. With the decline in the market and gas prices the push to get Infiniti hybrids on the market has subsided. Alternate fuel is another thread though.

To me the hybrid I may be of interest would be one similar to what I have read about in another performance car. Basically it had about a 100 hp engine with a 300 hp electric assist using a super capacitor. Basically you jumped on it and the super capacitor would power up the electric for rapid passing, etc. It was capable of holding 100 mph with a top speed close to what we now enjoy.

I have the article someplace and need to look at it once more. That is that is what I would want for myself. Now for the wife I am looking for something 100 % electric capable of going about 100 miles between charges and drive at normal highway speeds. Most of her driving is a mix of city and country driving of about 40 miles a day.

As far as a CVT while I feel it is possible, to me it just doesn't fit in what we desire from our Gs. In my wife's car it is a good fit, although I am somewhat disappointed with the mileage obtained compared to what else I have been exposed to.

Bought a loaded '09 37x last week for about $800 under invoice. Handling is superb - compared to my ex-Lexus this thing is like a go-cart (a fast one), yet tons of luxury feel. A sharp off- ramp I take every day in my old car would be pushing at 30mph. This car took it at close to 50 with no problem at all. I'm using the gentlest throttle I can while breaking it in, and it climbs through 4th at about 3k rpm. And occaisonally I just have to push it to about 4k - the recommended limit for 1200 miles. Can't wait to really shake it out. I see many tickets in my future.

I'd like a 2.5 or 3l turbo engine from Infiniti. They have the 2.5 engine already they just have to bring it in. Would be easier to gain more ponies too. Would have better fuel eonomy if people concern about that too.

I test drove a G37x sport sedan this weekend. Pure awesome... LOL. My girlfriend was riding shotgun, and I thought she was going to pass out. The salesman was very cool, "drive it like you stole it".

Please pass it along if you guys hear any Infiniti financing or rebate deals on the 2009. After driving the G, my beaten down Maxima feels even more beaten down. Great car, but it's ready to be mothballed.
