I'm new to the Nico Club, so I apologize if this question has been asked and answered before.
I take my car to the Infiniti dealer for regular maintenance and they usually have a recommended maintenace schedule which involves regular inspections as well as some additional items. It is these additional items which concern me. I'm wondering if the frequency to replace such items as: engine air filter, coolant, automatic transmission fluid, power steering fluid, brake fluid, spark plugs is excessive? My past experience with dealers makes me a little skeptical.

Cheers

You should be skeptical. There is a reason a nick name for dealerships is "stealerships". Many of the change intervals dealers use are, um, optimistic. Go with what the owner's manual says are required services. Also, when you go to a dealer for service, they will add on many inspections, small services, etc. as part of a "service interval package" which are not either required or necessary and are just a way to separate you from some of your money.

It's your money though, so you should do what ever makes you feel comfortable.

If you're under warranty or in an extended warranty, just do the required service from the owner's manual. I don't remember any of the recommended service items being excessive...Auto fluid was at 80k and spark plugs at 100k iirc. Not excessive at all.

How about the brake fluid change every 12 months? I haven't seen that any car I'd owned before.

That one is absolutely bogus. Two or three years should give no problems at all. Actually you can go longer than that, but to be sure everything is in tip top condition, change at about 3 or so. High yearly mileage would shorten that of course.

Infiniti suggests Schedule 2 as the minimum but will try and upsale for Premium.

Nissan/Infiniti don't even list a fluid replacement in their maint schedules. I'd suggest every 3 years or if you notice it getting dark.

Brake fluid replacement is listed for every 15,000 miles/12 months starting with the 2011 model year, for Schedule 1 service. (60,000 miles/48 months for Schedule 2 service.)

[So my initial response was off topic for this thread of 2009--I hadn't realized it had changed. Sorry  ]

Interesting, I will have to look forward into it. 15k mile is nuts for a "normally driven" DD....I can more understand the 60k/48.
