I have been a member for a while, but this is my first post.

I just bought my son a 2009 G37S and we are looking for upgrades to make it his own. I have read through most of the G37S engine/exhaust posts and see many different options.

We would like to upgrade the intake and the exhaust. I see that the RC2 is a favorite of NICO members, but I need to know if you have to get the car tuned once it is installed. If so, can anyone recommed a reputable shop in the Northern Virginia area? Additionally, are there any issues with using the RC2 in the rain. I do not see a cover in front of the air filter.

I would also like a recommendation on a full exhaust system or exhaust tips. The stock pipes make it sound like a kazoo.

Anything else forum members would recommend for father/son projects is GREATLY appreciated.

R2C is fine. The filters are still in teh engine bay and away from most moisture. The Injen intakes have been known to suck up water because they are low and more exposed. The stillen Gen 3 intakes come with covers and Ihave not heard of any problems from them.

On exhaust. That's a pretty tough question to answer. Every exhaust has different sounds. I'd recommend going to youtube and type in invidia, stillen, etc exhaust with G37 and liesten to them.

A few upgrades that are easy and do a lot is 1.) Sway bars ( I prefer hotckis), FSTB (frton strut tower bar). You can look into lowering the car, but there are tons of options on this too. Will need to search for options on this.

IF you get the intake and exhaust, you do not have to get a tune, but a lot of people have gotten extra HP and torque out of the car by doing a tune. I'd suggest a place that works with uprev as this is the tuning software that is mostly used now and probably the only one supported for the G37 now.

Thank you looks like we have some homework to do. I was looking at doing the sway bars too, but had not heard of the FSTB. I will look into that.

I agree with what Dave said. R2C works well and exhaust systems are a "toss up" for the most part.

I installed a new intake and cat back exhaust, and it was highly recommended that a re-tune be done because now I'm changing the air/fuel ratio. I'm getting a new tune next week from UpRev's software; which was mentioned above. I can let you know of the difference once the tune is done if you'd like.

To get the most out of mods a retune is always preferred. The vehicle has a learning ECU so even without a Uprev or others it will be fine.

Let us know how things come out. I plan on a custom tune sometime in the spring.

well after the Osiris tune, I got an estimated 16HP and 6TQ. I am now sitting at 335HP and 276TQ. My intake and exhaust system were already installed, so I don't know what the "actual" stock numbers were before and after the intake & exhaust. One thing I learned from this is that "stock" numbers are hardly ever what they are adverstised at. Good learning experience in all, and the car is very responsive now...love it. But for an extra $900 for the Osiris license and tune (German prices); not sure it was worth it. For being naturally aspired the gains were pretty good. I don't think I'll get high flow cats cause I don't want the car to be louder; or the Motordyne intake manifold; and don't want to mess with so called warranty issues; but one never knows if and when I want that extra 10-12HP.

yeah, i need to get a custom tune. I'm running the Cobb Stage 2+ bundled tune and figure I should gain 15hp or so more with a custom.

I looked at the Motordyne intake manifold too...seemed overpriced for the gains. Now the Stillen Supercharger, that's a killer mod! Very $$, but you can get an engine warranty through Stillen if you follow there rules on installation (have a pro do it). All other mods will only give you single digit increases for the most part.

Local guy has the Stillen SC and is running over 470whp. It's the same as my coupe; 2008 Ivory Pearl G37s auto. They are not using the Stillen tune tho. AMS in Chicago did the tune after they had motor issues with the Stillen configuration (or something...). He's since had another tune which added more hp.
