Hey Guys,

I have done some research to increase the HP of my 2009 G37 Coupe. Here is what I have found.

These 3 parts add 62.5hp at the engine and 53 hp at the wheels and 35 torque

STILLEN G37 Dual Exhaust System, 19hpw, 15 torque - $1,158http://www.stillen.com/product...l=G37 2DR

STILLEN Generation 3 Ultra Long Tube Dual Intake Kit, 18hpw, 6 torque - $549http://www.stillen.com/product...l=G37 2DR

STILLEN Hi-Flow Catalytic Converters, 16 hpw, 14 torque - $516http://www.stillen.com/product...l=G37 2DR

Has anyone up-graded there G37 with these parts and do you really get the performance up-grade as advertised? What can you tell me? Does the computer chip need to be up-graded also for this to work properly?

Also, here are a couple more options.

Add

STILLEN 350Z / G35 / G37 / 370Z Headers, 14 hpw and 11 torque - $479http://www.stillen.com/product...l=G37 2DR

Or add 80 hp with this supercharger

http://www.superchargerswareho...rgers/

Or 25 to 50 hp with this chip

http://www.engineperformancech...6_363

Thanks for your help.

Geoff

Sorry to burst your bubble, but what you've just done is committed Ricer Math.

The first thing to consider is that those claims are usually on the high end and actual results WILL vary.

Second, those gains are not all in the same part of the power band. Meaning, the intake may gain you top end power while the exhaust may give you mid range. The only area you can add power is where the two mods overlap (figuratively speaking).

Third, the "Sum of the Parts" routine doesn't usually work. Headers, test pipes, and a cat-back exhaust may only yield 20 hp, but each will claim 10-15. So you'd calculate 30-45 hp, but because each component improves exhaust flow, there's only so much improvement that can be done.

Now there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Let's take our exhaust mods again. A POSSIBLE problem with having a super free flowing exhaust may be that it flows better than the engine can keep up with. This is a case where something like cams and a tune might make up for that Ricer Math deficit. On the flip side, the G37 has VVEL and an agressive tune to start out with, so you'd need some decent mods to make a tune worth while.

Also, performance chips are not going to work EVER! Looking into an ECU re-tune or a stand alone ECU.

That's alot of supposed power for just doing intakes and a full exhaust. I'd find that very hard to believe to be real. More realistically all those parts put on might do 30whp on a really good day and if you have a very strong car. The VQ engine is really strong from the factory and bolt on mods don't add too much power to it. Mostly noise and look factor. Best thing you can do for power is go F/I with the supercharger.

Thanks Guys,

This is the hands on advice I am looking for. What do you think of mthis type of supercharger. It's not belt driven, but off of the battery. The PSI change is only 3 PSI. Does this have any downside, the price is right.

Total access to the ECU is the way to go... That way whatever mods you put, you're able to adjust in the ECU. And add timing if it could still handle some more for more power.

This sounds too good to be true here.... I am admittedly a noob to modding cars but 80hp for $199? I would be interested in hearing some opinions either way about this. And one big question... would something like this void any part of my warranty? Would the dealer install something like this for me?

My credit card has been itching to buy my first mod...

i don't even think a "sneaky pete" setup will get you 80hp.

There is no way a small inline fan can increase the airflow to the point of making it a "supercharger". In fact, it will probably impede it. Run from those FAST.

You'd be lucky if you got 50% of some of those numbers for the exhaust, intake, and HFC. Like the others have said, the total gain is not a sum of the individual components.

Also, your car already has headers from the factory that work very well.

Finally, there is no supercharger working on a VHR motor yet, electric or otherwise. GTM and Stillen are both working on supercharger kits. Stillen is not providing any details. GTM has published a few pictures. Both kits will cost way more than $200.

I almost bought these, but in my hands, they seemed really cheap and crappy. Thanks!

Also, your machine is a work of art...
