Lossless audio is compressed digital format that does not affect the quality of the sound. In other words, there is no lose quality from the audio stream during compression. Apple has its own lossless codec that the ipods can play. I am wondering if infiniti supports this format through the ipod? I guess the question would be if the car decodes the file or if the ipod streams it

your car speakers are just like your headphones. so if your headphones process something to make your audio format different from whats on your ipod comming from your speakers then yes. other than that. whatever you have on your ipod is what you get.

Hm I learned something today. Nice thanks for explaining it. Isn't the mpeg 4 is one?

It might be a stupid question but isn't the loss the biggest when it goes from ipod to the speakers A.K.A. cables? Also maybe to look into some better quality speakers. As I said I am not audiophile so don't really know much of these things.
