2009 ex35 in USA or Collectors item?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Will our EX35 becomes a collectors item if they don`t produce this car for

2009?

Why do think they are not going to produce this car again?? Do you have any websites/links that say otherwise?? Was it such a bad seller in 2008?? Like some of the other people have mentioned, if they add a bit more leg room and cargo space, it would definitely sell better.. but hey - we ended up buying it, as did you.. so it does have a market.

the typical cycle on Japanese cars is 5 years. What you will see are upgrades to option packages, transmissions and engines as they become available. This is done to "differentiate" model years and keep buyers interested. So if not in '09, then in 2010 I'd expect to see a 6-speed automatic and the 3.7 liter V6 added. I would SERIOUSLY doubt you will see any major changes until 2012, earliest.

As for the EX -- The tooling is bought and paid for, the safety and emmisions testing performed, so all Nissan/Infiniti need to do is make and import whatever the market demands, whether that's 5,000/year or 50,000 year. There is no downside at this point. If Infiniti were still in the development stage on the EX and the market were tanking, then they might have second thoughts and pull the plug. But once it's in production imported and for sale, they should just keep producing them, even if in smaller numbers right now.

What I can't believe is how much BETTER the EX35 rides/drives than the G35 loaners they give me when I take in the M45 or the EX. The G is rougher, noisier and a whole lot less refined. It feels like it's "maybe" 1/2 second quicker to 60, but for 99.6% of our driving, that's irrelevant.

Bottom Line -- my wife LOVES her EX and would NOT drive anything else. We tested Lexus, Land Rover, Lincoln, Cadillac and Mazda -- and the EX was by far her favorite. I liked driving it too. Smaller? Yep. But it offers the utility needed in a fun, fast, quiet, elegant package.

As previous owner of a Lexus IS300 SportCross I am wondering if we will see Nissan follow the path that Toyota did.

When the 2002 1st year SportCross sales tanked Toyota cut production way back. Production was so low in 2003 that most cars were customer orders. In 2004-2005 very few cars were imported and I would bet almost all of them were special orders.

So how long the EX is imported to the US may depend on worldwide sales numbers; if the total can justify keeping the production line running.

I have really grown to like my EX, much more than I thought I would. This is a much better package than the SportCross with more room, comfort, and power. So it should appeal to enough people that Nissan will continue to import the car. I do miss the mechanical limited slip differential the SportCross had though; mechanicals are way better than brake based systems IMHO.

I would love to see my EX as Collector's item but since Europe/few Asian countries already has the EX as 37, not 35 so it'll be very hard decision for Nissan to make to put a stop production on a car which already has next minor changes. In another hands, I also think stop production in US is possible since they have other countries who are already thrilled to buy smaller CUV. I can say Asians in Asia prefers EX over FX due to easiness in parking.

Will you consider EX35 the same as Ex37? bec. it is a totally different

engine and transmission for both. If they produce EX37 here in USA for

2009 then our`s is the 1st and last EX35 ...Do you agree?

BTW, new engine and transmission are not a minor thing.....

From what I've read, the sales of 2008 EX35 has been a disappointment. Year ended Sep 08, Nissan expected one year sale of 15K units but only 10,300 units were sold. We are talking 33% lesser than projected, that's pretty bad considering they tally the numbers on Sep 08, a time in which the economy was not at its worst (though house prices and foreclosures jumped significantly at that time). I expect Oct to Dec's sale number should be dismal. Main reason for the slow sale number, tight rear seat leg room. With a glut of supply, Nissan has pushed out production date of 09's EX. That's why.

So Nissan is going to provide more rear leg room to sell this vehicle, add paddle shifter and so on supposedly for the 2010 model. 2009 should have been very similar, but maybe they will wait till the remaining stocks are cleared. Plus with the yen gaining against the dollar, producing the EX becomes cost prohibitive in Japan (though final assembly is done in North America). I'm sure they are working hard to figure out the numbers. Might as well just wait, push out all the necessary changes later in the year since they still have adequate supply and make that 2009.5.

Gotta say it's sad to know that EX35 will be replaced by EX37, I suspect price will depreciate quicker. Plus with the tight rear seat leg room, don't think resale value will be that great in 3 years.

I didn't mean minor about the drivetrain, EX37 looks exactly same as EX35. For Nissan, it could be very minor since they are using the engines / trannies from 08 G37 coupes, but for us, it is huge difference, i follow you on that. But still i would consider EX37 as same as EX35, its just one more gear and 30 additional HP, i can live without it as long as those cars look the same.
