the typical cycle on Japanese cars is 5 years. What you will see are upgrades to option packages, transmissions and engines as they become available. This is done to "differentiate" model years and keep buyers interested. So if not in '09, then in 2010 I'd expect to see a 6-speed automatic and the 3.7 liter V6 added. I would SERIOUSLY doubt you will see any major changes until 2012, earliest.
As for the EX -- The tooling is bought and paid for, the safety and emmisions testing performed, so all Nissan/Infiniti need to do is make and import whatever the market demands, whether that's 5,000/year or 50,000 year. There is no downside at this point. If Infiniti were still in the development stage on the EX and the market were tanking, then they might have second thoughts and pull the plug. But once it's in production imported and for sale, they should just keep producing them, even if in smaller numbers right now.
What I can't believe is how much BETTER the EX35 rides/drives than the G35 loaners they give me when I take in the M45 or the EX. The G is rougher, noisier and a whole lot less refined. It feels like it's "maybe" 1/2 second quicker to 60, but for 99.6% of our driving, that's irrelevant.
Bottom Line -- my wife LOVES her EX and would NOT drive anything else. We tested Lexus, Land Rover, Lincoln, Cadillac and Mazda -- and the EX was by far her favorite. I liked driving it too. Smaller? Yep. But it offers the utility needed in a fun, fast, quiet, elegant package.
