How is the fluid on your vehicle? Burnt, brown/ really dark red. If any of the above then flush it and see if the problem subsides. Do you have check engine light on at all?

I have noticed the same thing. I really does take a little extra time to go into reverse or forward gears. It has been that way from the beginning, and i just figured it was normal. All in all, a pretty minor gripe for me, as the rest of the car is amazing (other than some of the options on the Nav/Phone/CD/MP3 player gray out when you start moving- what a pain!)

Mine does the same thing...has since I purchased in May 09. I was told it's normal from the dealer...it bugs the crap out of me to be honest.

I have a 09 SL AWD that I purchased in October of 09. I don't notice this in my Murano.

My 09 with 16k does that as well, it seems like it takes too much time to 'engage' when going from R to D. What's worse is that heavy thud when you get impatient and hit the gas before it's engaged, then it bangs in and goes...can't be good. I asked the dealer about it and he says it's designed that way so you can't go into D while still rolling backward. I called BS, explained how I always come to a full stop before changing from R to D and vice-versa. He changed the subject. Interesting that some have this hesitation and some don't.

'04 with 81k miles and does not do that. Smooth transaction from reverse to drive or drive to reverse. Lags are not normal.

09 LE, with about 5k. We experience a bit of a lag only on very cold mornings, otherwise shifts seem pretty normal. One thing that I do is usually on startup I sit for 15 to 20 seconds and let the oil circulate - maybe why I'm not experienceing the long lag.

The general rule of thumb is that the CVT should perform and feel like a conventional auto trans, in this situation it the shifts should be immediate and crisp. The first thing to check is the CVT fluid level, however on a new vehicle like this it should not be down.

Either way you've got a problem with the CVT, and you need to be persistent with the dealer and insist they correct the problem. Come armed with information, let them know that you know that this lag is not normal. This should all be diagnosed and fixed under warranty, no questions asked. You do not have to live with a new vehicle that is defective. Good luck.
