So as a wrap up , I thought I share my feelings on my Rogues Transmission Fluid capacity which you may feel free to use as a guide.

When just doing a regular drain and fill, 5 quarts will drain.

So re-filling with 5 quarts of NS-2 fluid will do the job.

If you plan to drop the pan, you will need to re-fill 5 1/2 quarts and work from there.

If you plan to drop the pan and replace the strainer, you will need over 6 quarts.

After dropping the pan and replacing the strainer, I re-filled 5 1/4 quarts.

I started slow because I wanted to get as close to the first dot on the dip stick.

Of course the next day, it was bone dry after 20 min of warming up the engine at moderate speed.

So I filled another 1/4, then drove, just still barely under the dot and still very low.

So another 1/4 added, repeat. Still not enough.

Heck, I just emptied the bottle for the full six quarts and now it sits exactly touching the cross hatch.

Ok, I was happy with that, and drove for a week and its still there just touching it.

So today, I added another 8 ounces.

The overall goal is to get it right in the middle just like it was from the factory as in my case.

Hopefully, I am a little bit inside the cross hatch area now and see how I am in a week.

Unlike the motor oil dipstick where being close to the full line is preferable,

On the transmission dip stick this is to be avoided to prevent aeration and the so-called dreaded whine and limp mode.

Just avoid the full dot area like the plague!

Therefore, I am taking it slowly and yet meticulous approach as I can so I can get a nice accurate fill.

My final thoughts on the drain is pretty positive considering I was able to drain way more than 50% fluid considering the AWD capacity is 9.1 quarts.

Many vehicles out there are lucky to get 3-4 quarts, considering just draining the Rogue gets 5qts is great.

The FWD is 7.9 QTs, so you see how much we are able to drain from our vehicles is a major plus!

And hoping not to beat a dead horse, but the Rogue drives freakily smooth. If it wasn't such a dramatic change, I would not

praise it like it was some cure to baldness, but its that defining in a way! :thewave:

This is not my dip stick but an example where your levels should be around.

So you want it to be exactly halfway between the notches, which puts it firmly in the cross hatch area, about 30% from the low end of the cross hatch area and 70% away from the full line of the cross hatch area. That looks like where it should measure when cold. Is there a hot measurement on the flip side of the dip stick?

What do you use to pull the dip stick out? I've never done it myself because it's locked in place from the factory.

Simply put,

I just look at the 1 dots as the area you can safely fill with fluid.

In order to get the perfect fill for all of us weekend mechanics, you should get it right at the middle of the cross-hatch section.

This is especially important for driving up hills and very hot days, because this allows room for the fluid to expand perfectly in the safe zone.

Our Rogue dipstick is only for hot measurements.

In my AWD, regular drain & fill of 5 quarts perfectly filled my Rogue right in the middle of the cross hatch area.

In order to remove the transmission dip stick , use a flat head screw driver and press inside the square area to push the plastic inward to release it.

It can a PIA for a few good minutes until you get it right. Not fun. lol!

The whole procedure is as easy as changing oil but you need a skinny a*# funnel to fill the fluid.

Remember to shake the bottle vigorously before filling up!

Good luck. :dblthumb:

Thanks, I'm not due for another CVT service for at least 10K more miles. I just want to be able to check the fluid periodically on my own.
