2009 antifreeze smell

Our 2009 Murano is in the shop getting head gaskets, (79,000 miles)seems that Nissan got bad materials on the 2009's gaskets, I bought the extended warranty(I usually don't) and am glad I did, I had been smelling antifreeze but was blaming a seeping upper radiator hose. I was told that the shop is checking all 2009 Muranos for this problem if the vehicle is in shop--no recall, wth???
