I have never seen this on any of the other cars I owned.
So was wondering if anyone else have seen this.
I have a 2009 Altima 2.5S, and it was purchased new.
I went to check the tire pressure today on the tires, (as I do every month.)
The moment that I took the silver plastic cap off the valve stem, I heard the hiss of air.
I tried to use something to depress the center pin of the valve stem, thinking that the pin might need to be reseated.
Tried as I may, even if a lot of air was let out, the center pin still leaked air. I put the silver cap back on and it seemed
to stop the hissing sound. I'll have to check later to see how bad the leak is.
I went around the rest of the 4 tires and they all do the same thing. This is weird.
Has anyone seen this?
The last time the tires has been touched was when it was checked at the dealer (as part of oil change) a few weeks ago.

Another question I have is would the dealer cover this under warranty?
I am not sure if the tire stem is part of the TPMS sensor, these are expensive to service right?

If they are not part of the TPMS, I guess I can take it to a tire place to replace the stem and rebalance the tire right?

Thanks for your feedback.

The valve is not screwed in far enough (you need a tool to do it) OR the valve stem is CRACKED because of overtightening.

Tighten the valves and see if they still leak.

If they do, warranty. But if you bought new i'd take it back shop.

I had a full sensor replaced (it's all one piece) under warranty because of cracking. There is a service bulletin about them. Over tightening causes cracking thus leaking. Fixed for free under warranty.

Thanks. You were spot on about the loose valve cores. The hissing got louder every time I took the valve cap off. The valve cores were so loose that I bet they would have flew off the valve stem in short order just from the road vibration and the pressure. I hate to think of the possibilities if I had not found this.

What I don't understand is how this could have happened to all 4 tires at once. One or two might be possible, but all 4 are too much of a coincidence.

I picked up one of the tools you posted and fixed all of my valves in under a minute. How tight would these need to be? I was careful not to horse them. I ask because while I was at the parts place getting the valve core tool I noticed that they also sold some more expensive torque screw drivers for the valve cores that claimed to be "TPMS" compatible. Not sure if they are using scare tactics to sell their products or not. Not tightened enough, and you get a leak, tightened too much and you damage the TPMS sensor, or so they claim. Some quick research showed that these tools work inconsistently at best. I looked in the service manual and there's no mention of torque specs for the tire stem valve cores.

I'll recheck the pressure in a few days, but so far so good. Thanks.

They're just standard valves. Do not over tighten them. Once they get tight you're good to go. Finger tight. :) Glad it was an easy fix.

Hopefully the guy working at the shop didn't just do it so you would come back in or just simply hates you. I'd still mention it to the shop though... they have a record of who works on the car ;)
