I have a 2009 Nissan Altima Coupe 3.6 CVT.

Over the past week or so I've noticed a ratcheting sounds coming from the engine bay. The sound is present when I start my car and sit at idle (ratcheting is somewhat quiet), will get significantly louder if I accelerate and release my foot off the pedal (it will be extremely loud and rapid), and will also be present if I coast. This sound will go away after a few minutes of driving. I've about exhausted every website I can check for the sound and haven't found anyone with a similar problem as mine and it is getting frustrating so I am trying here.

My thoughts are it would be either my drive belt or something wrong with the rods in the engine but I just don't know, I'm not too up on mechanic stuff regarding cars.

ANY help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Another thing that can cause lots of noise is a problem with the dual mass fly wheel. There are springs in it that can break and make an awful noise. It seems to be worse at lower RPM I think.
