Well, I'm looking to upgrade Skyline in about 9-12 months and I'm trying to decide what to get. I was considering a 370GT/G37, however I'm still not sold on the styling, and weight is an issue. I can't import a Skyline till early next year, so if by that time a new Z is out, then I'd consider getting that (and they would be around the same price).

What has been made 'official' regarding the new Z? Any information out there? I've seen the spy shots, and if Nissan really are trying to get the weight down whilest increasing the displacement then they could really be onto a winner. 3.7 from the G or maybe even 3.8 from the GTR without the twins???

When do you think they'll be hitting the showroom? August/September? Any information anyone has dug up would be great.

nissan is keeping tight lipped, I guess trying to keep the current models selling, we're all eager to hear, I spoke to a NISMO rep at the ZCCA convention and he wouldn't give it up, I suspect 3.8 but we'll have to wait and see

No idea yet. Nissan did offer a limited production 3.8L Fairlady (380RS) in Japan so that may be the direction for the '09.

Is the 380RS the same as the Type F?

Hmm, says they are 400hp. Got any more info on them?

Not other than what was found via Google. Wish I had an internal Nissan contact but unfortunately I don't

You shouldn't have to import a skyline the R35 GT-R will be available in june at your local Nissan dealer. As far as the new Z from what I understand will be 400Z. Wearing the internal code Z34, the new sportscar is expected to be called 400Z, as the engine displacement will probably have to grow up to 4-liters in order to keep up with the competition. All Z-models up until now had 6-cylinder engines. The first generations were straight-6es and the rest used a “V” configuration. Following the Z tradition, the 400z should feature a V6, but six cylinders are not enough for such a large displacement. Usually 4-liter engines are V8’s and Nissan is very likely to switch to that;( topgear.com )

I live in Australia, Skyline I was referring to was a G37. GTR would be very nice, however I don't see them being sold here locally for less than $AU110k, so an imported V36 is less than half of that, and considering 350Z retail here new for around $AU60k, it'll be between the new one or a 370GT.

I like the sound of a 400Z, but i don't see it being a V8.

I see your predicament now. I'll see what I can out for you. A friend of mine is the general manager of a Nissan dealership maybe he has some light to shed on the topic.

Hey i work at the Nissan plant in Smyrna Tn the new Z is going to be a 370Z with a 3.7 liter V-6 it will be unvieled at the paris auto show. it is slightly longer. but no V-8 the platform is not going to change drasticlybecause they are bringing over the gtr. to make the z into a more powerfullmor costly V-8 platform will cut into the GTR market. 370 is on her way i have seen the prototype she is beautiful.

Wait a little longer Andy and see if the rumored G50 gets some more press. That's the Nissan 5.0 V8 with the special Yamaha designed heads. The FX has received press saying it will be available as a FX37 and a FX50. That is basically the same platform as the G if I read it correctly.Just hold on a little longer. I'm thinking a G50 would fit in as the IS/F competitor, and give Infiniti something to show a potential GT R shopper.

Can't wait to see the 370 if they bring it out. I'll probably look into one.

Not to doubt you, but are you sure? All of the spy shots that have been going around the net suggest the next Z will be shorter than the current model.

The 3.7 litre makes sense, I'm just wondering if output will be higher than the G37/Skyline, or if the Skylines output will be also increased for 2009. In any case I'm sure it will be a great car, I just really hope some of the tech from the GTR gets carried over (makes sense) and that the interior is alot less plastic (Infiniti interior would be nice).

Thanks for the info guys!
