Not much really.
Water overflow, oil catch can, clutch, a few vacuum lines, wiring harness...
Then there is the oil cooler, oil pressure switch/transmitter, throttle cable, water heater hoses...
And we can't forget the exhaust, drive shaft...
...I guess I had better get to work :frown:

A quick update.

I got the overflow can welded this week. Next step for that is to weld the attachment brackets and the bungs for the drains and inlet hose. :bigthumb:

Image

Location looks about right. Plenty of room around it.

Image

Next up... the oil catch can. Same routine. Cut and tape together.

Image

Image

Next on the list was a trip to Jegs to pickup bungs and a cap. The were out of the size I needed. Crap!

I have to go to Phoenix this week and was hoping to have the welding done while I was away. Now everything will have to wait until I get back.

I guess I will order everything on-line, Jegs or Summit, at least it will be here when I get back from AZ.

Looks like this one has more metal on it. Peter did say it was hard welding tape together :P

Bummer it had to wait though, but you gotta pay the bills and buy parts!

Sorry you got stranded...$hit happens...not much I could do anyway. I take it you got where you wanted to go. Hurry back to Columbus, I need a KA24DE ASAP for S14 and you need to start work on roll bar for Betzy!

Time for an update.

I got all my stuff back from Pete at Defined Autoworks. Lots of nice welds, very happy. :dblthumb:

I finally got the overflow can for the radiator mounted and the hose hooked up. Finished!

Image

The oil catch can required some deep thought on where to put it. I came up with over here behind the driver side shock tower. I welded a little steel bracket under fender support. A couple simple plug welds and a spot of primer over to keep it from rusting.

Image

I will have a aluminum support bracket welded on the bottom. There is also a threaded bung on bottom for draining.

Image

So...I ran two -10 hoses from rockers to the catch can...One -8 hose to inlet pipe on the turbo (the back one)...and one -8 hose over to the PCV valve. In theory, crankcase pressure vented out rockers will be sucked back through the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve. Under boost conditions, the PCV valve will shut off and the vacuum will be provided by the turbo inlet. The catch can is in the middle, to sort out any oil issues and can be drained.

I also hooked up the pressure lines to the turbo waste gates.

That's it for today

Time for a beer

I've seen some people install a drain tube from their catch cans back into the oil sump.

Yes. We are starting plan"B". Cam is "between jobs" right now and this might take a while. His $'s are low.

I actually have a bung welded to the right side of the oil pan for this purpose. I figured I would be putting the can on that side. I was wrong. Maybe later...Turbo drains as well.

I was busy this weekend. I worked on Cam's 240SX and Evan's EK but still found time to pull the RB.

Next on the list is to install the clutch and the wiring harness. I figured it would be easier to do with engine out. I have to hook up my new water temp and oil pressure sensors as well...

Not sure yet. If you read all the posts, you would see I'm terrible about committing to a color.

I started out hating orange and now it is growing on me. I like the brighter shades of orange. "Taxicab" "Hemi" "Tangelo" are a few. The stock orange would require less work. :dblthumb:

I did like "Laguna Seca" Blue for a long time, but that was on a BMW (M3) several years ago. Not sure it would be OK on Betzy and it also seems everybody is doing it now...

Image

Black is still my favorite, not going to do the flat black on car, maybe air dam / ZG flares....

Midnight purple.... :naughty:

Going to have to make up my mind soon

Update

I started on getting the wiring done. First on my list was to add an oil pressure transmitter. This is the one I got from speed hut for the speed hut gauges. I drilled and tapped (1/4 NPT) it into the remote oil filter adapter. That way I did not have to mess with the BSP threaded stuff.

Image

It fits in there nice, lots of room.

Image

Next was the water temp sensor for the water temp gauge. There are two water temp sensors located on top. The yellow one is for the engine computer (two wire connector). The smaller one is for the gauge (one wire connector).

Image

Old sensor on right. New sensor and adapter on left. Again, I'm trying to stay with NPT.

Image

Drilled and tapped, inserted adapter...

Image

then sensor...

Image

Next was to start with the harness. This is going to take a while.

Image

I need to pickup a few connectors to replace some damaged ones.
That's it for now. Gord

A little update

I went down to the pick-n-pull to look for a couple of replacement connectors for the RB. I found just what I was looking for on a couple of Nissans, also grabbed a few green fuel pump relays, and ooooo there's a few locking clips for the injectors  . I swung by the Civic's, looking for a manual window crank to replace the one Evan drove over (long story) and I ran across a 240Z. Holy crap :bigthumb: . It was a 72 with a DOM of 12/71. I grabbed the windshield wiper fluid bottle, the little discharge nozzles, and a few knobs from the inside (plus 4 lbs of hardware :gapteeth: ).

Back home to get to work...

I got the connectors changed, and started on the clutch.

I got the stack back together and torqued.

Image
Image
Image

Engine and transmission went together very easy.

Image

The lower harness to the starter and alternator is all hooked up.

Dropped everything back in Betzy.

Image

That's it for now. Gord

I had a really good day today. :chuckle:
Engine is in and bolted up. The transmission is serviced with three quarts of redline. I'll top it off after I get the yoke installed. I got all the oil lines hooked back up, oil filter and 7qts of purple stuff. Installed the battery and a few gauges (oil prex and water temp). MAFs and engine harness. O2 sensors. I cranked the engine on the starter, getting 30PSI. :dblthumb: Next is fuel and water...maybe tomorrow? :ohno: :woot:

I did it! :woot: Except for a few screw ups by me everything went great. I had the TX-RX swapped on the data-scan so it (data-scan) would not work at first, and I hooked the ITB's using the stock setting and the throttle linkage was further away because of the Greddy intake, figured that out and adjusted accordingly. But she does run!

Image

The trany fluid dumped a little out of the back on the transmission, that will be corrected when the yoke is installed. The BOV is leaking air out at idle, I think that is pre-load adjustment. Can't see any other leaks. :bigthumb:

Time for a beer, I am so freekin happy :dance :mike
