Update

Made a bracket for the bulkhead fittings.

Image

Looks good and should secure the lines. :dblthumb: Hooked up the -6 lines to the engine

Image

Everything is clamped up down below...I need to trim the lengths of those bolts, way too long.

The next thing on my list is to clean up the tank fittings and get the floor covered.

WOW You're very talented and skilled!! You've got an amazing project going on,

I stumbled upon your post when looking for a good way to carry my surfboard in my 280, Remember that surfboard mound from your very first post?

It looks like a good way to transport a surf board. I looked it over and could not find any markings or part number. It is secured to the hatch and had a little crank to tighten it down.

The surfboard is a Hansen board (Jerry Lopez). Do not know much about boards but it looks adequate for Ohio  . I promise not to tow it behind a pontoon boat :gapteeth: .

I was wondering.. are you going to apply some protective coating on the bottom of the chassis? I always thought Rhinoliner would do well on the parts that aren't exposed to intense heat. (exhaust)

Hahaha...soon my friend...soon. And, I will no longer be a member of the NRRBA. Then we can start on "plan B".

Thanks, and I will see you at Carlisle. I am heading over on Friday. Let me know when you get there.

That is the plan. I will try and keep as much of the original undercoating as possable, just cover it and the new floor.

So I've been kicking around the idea in my head of finding an older z to restore as my fun car (so I can basically buy the car in small pieces and put it together as time/money allow). This thread has really interested me. I guess I will be putting this in the works for when I can afford to actually buy an s30 in good condition body-wise. I know I have nowhere near the level of skill you do, but one has to learn somewhere. Based on your pace, I figure I'll be lucky if I can get a z running in about 15 years. :chuckle:

Seriously an epic build and I can't wait to see it completed. I will definitely be using this thread to help me plan my build (if I decide to take the skirt off and go for it). Excellent work so far. :bigthumb:

WOW! What an amazing build so far! I've read all 10 pages on and off whenever I've had a chance the last couple of days and I can't wait to see it completed. I've been trying to imagine a nice color for it but can't even decide on one, and it's not even my car lol. You've got a tough choice ahead of you on that one. I'll be checking back on this thread often. Only a few months til I get my house and my next project is an S30. Can't wait!
You seem like a great guy, and I love the fact that your kids into it too. :mike

I did not get much done on the Z this weekend . :frown: I started playing around with the floor covering in the back. Using cardboard to make a pattern.

Image

I spent the better part of today and yesterday helping the kid get his 240SX ready for Carlisle. We were trying to sort out the hacked up electrics and clean it up a little. We are not done by a long shot but we are getting closer. It should be ready for the trip. :bigthumb:

WOW....I just read this whole thing. It's 3AM and I got school at 8AM. Time to go to sleep and dream of this car. Makes me want one, but I don't even have enough money to get my 240sx where I want it. Look forward to seeing progress.

Yup. I work at Jet Select. We manage corporate aircraft. I'm one of the mechanics.

Well...lets just wait and see how it turns out..I have a long way to go here, but thanks for the comments.

Time for an Update!

The floor panels were easy to fab using the cardboard templates I made. Just trimming and a couple test fits. :bigthumb:

Image

I rolled the edges to give it some height and strength. The spare tire cutout was lower than the floor level.

Image
Image

Next thing was to make an access panel. I needed to be able to access the fuel cap and also give clearance for the pressure fuel elbow sticking up out of the fuel pump...this would allow me to do any maintenance on the top of the tank without dropping it. :gapteeth:

So I cut 3/4" sheet metal into a band...

Image

Then I sort of welded a flat top and bottom flange to it...BTW, I did not have a good welding day, some days are better than others. I heard Ronnie James Dio died today and they were playing some great tribute songs by him...maybe I had the current and radio cranked up too high...Na...Rock on Ronnie...may you RIP.

Image

...It goes over the top of the cap and pump.

Image
Image

I'll make a flip up door for the top of the panel. Should be OK for fueling. Debated making an external/remote fuel cap but decided to keep it simple. :bigthumb:

Looks good Gord. Besides lifting up the rear hatch to fuel your car looks cooler. Would you consider shaving the gas door when it came time for body work and paint?

Sorry i missed you guys at Carlisle. Unfortunatly the car didnt want to go as much as i did.

Going to shave as much as I can, side markers and gas door. Too bad about your car and Carlisle, but we'll end up crossing paths eventually.

small update

Looks like an impressive build. Very clean and attention to details. It will be pretty sweet when you are done. Be sure to post videos when you bring havoc to the streets. :chuckle:
