I'm looking at getting a 2009-2011 G37 Sedan with Bose & Navigation.

I'm trying to piece together the audio components which could be upgraded.

I understand the following:
  • 10" Flat Woofers in the front doors
  • 6x9s in the back
Are there any woofers in the back doors or trunk?

I found a lot of conflicting information online, some pertaining to the coupe, others to previous years.

Also, are 2009-2011 the same in regards to speakers?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to NICO.

It appears that the '09-'11 sedans have the same speaker configuration (at least for the Bose with nav package). It looks as though there is a woofer in the rear as well as woofers in the front two doors. The rear doors have a what looks to be a full-range speaker in them, though I can't tell the size. The front also has a mid-range driver in each door, as well as a tweeter near each pillar. There should also be a center speaker in the dash (mid-range).

Check the service manual (for the 2010 sedan you want to see page 355 of AV.pdf):

One thing I should warn you about, upgrading the speakers on a Bose-equipped Nissan/Infiniti is a giant pain. The amp for the Bose speakers will be in the trunk, and will be tuned with the headunit to provide the best audio possible out of the stock Bose speakers (they have flaws, so the system is tuned to minimize the appearance of those flaws). Swapping just speakers likely wont improve the audio significantly. You would probably need to gut the whole system (head unit, amp and speakers) to achieve a noticeable improvement, in my opinion. That is precisely what I had to do with my car.

To be honest, it will be hard to figure out perfect compatibility without removing the stock speakers yourself and measuring size and impedance (using a multi-meter). Bose doesn't offer up much in terms of technical information on their gear. For most people, the best bet would be to get the base stereo and replace everything. Or just stick with the stock Bose system (unless you like spending oodles of cash).

AppleBonker, thanks for the information.

I looked through the service manuals, but like you said, they don't provide the exact sizes.

Regarding the overall speakers, I am hoping to at the very minimum replace the rear sub, which would require an amp. If I could get one the same size, I am hoping that I won't need to cut any metal.

In that case, you would definitely want to investigate the actual speaker yourself. It will almost certainly be covered by some of the trunk liner. This means you'll be confined by the diameter of the sub, as well as the mounting depth. I can assure you that it can be done. Where there's a will, there's a way. The other thing I can guess is that sub will be mounted IB (infinite baffle), so it would be a good idea to select a model that can function well in that situation (plenty exist, and many are decently priced for their performance). An additional amp would definitely be required, but that install would be far from complicated.

Unfortunately, without examining the car I wont be able to help much more in terms of speaker size. Hopefully a G37 sedan owner can pull the trunk liner and take a couple quick measurements for you. My guess is it would be a 10" diameter sub with roughly a 6-7" mounting depth. I could be way off though...

I have a 2009 G37 sedan with a Bose system (with NAV...but I don't think that matters)

3.5 center dash
10" front door
3.5 front door "squaker" (not 100% on the size)
6.5 rear door full-range
10" single "sub" in rear deck

There are 2 amps...one main Bose unit for the mids/highs and another dedicated one for the rear deck "sub". It really needs more bass...I ended up adding a 12" aftermarket sub system in mine.

Thanks for the measurements!

Joe, do you remember if the oem sub mounted infinite baffle like AppleBonker mentioned?

Also, any chance you could snap a picture of your trunk with the 12" sub?

Thanks!

Joe, did you put your aftermarket sub in the factory location?

And, with very few exceptions, all Nissan/Infiniti vehicles have one Bose system. The only change is in the headunit when you upgrade to nav.
