I got a call from my DEALER saying that my 2008 V is recalled for fixing the LEAK . I asked him what they will do and he said they will apply aluminium paste and leave it dry for 45 minutes. I am taking my car this weekend for this and I will come to know the exact nature of this RECALL by then.

Hi All,

As said I am giving the Information regarding this RECALL

Just picked up the car Yesterday night from Delaer after Recall fix

My invoice says2008-2009 VERSA SILL COVER PLATE INSTALLATION

CAUSE OF RECALL: VERSA CAMPAINING

WORK DESCRIPTION SAYS

SUBL 502 ALAMOP82240 INSTALL COVER PLATE KIT 200 WCM376480-ZR80A BRKT KIT

WHILE I PICKED UP MY CAR THERE WAS LOT OF RED CHEMICAL POWDERIN THE PASSENGER SEAT.

LOOKS LIKE THEY DID MORE THAN ONE THING

THEY DIDN'T PURPOSELY MENTION THIS IN THE INVOICE(LEAK FIX)

i think this is the main reason for recall

They also installed sill plate kit

I saw them installing this while I was at the dealership

It was two heavy box like plates(probably 2 inches height and 10 X 10 inches width) one under the carpet under driver feetand one under the passenger feet.

I think right now without this it is just a vaccum place.

"You won't believe this after they installed this it dramatically improved my cars performance especially in cornering and high way driving" my car was wandering here and there before.

They were also installing this in the sedans.

Any how, I am happy after this Recall, it was kind of annoying earilier to drive this car since I haven't installed any performance parts yet

The reason he said he does not understand the post, is that your English is too poor to be easy understood. I had a heck of a time reading your post as well.

I just typed what ever I read from the work order they gave me at the dealer ship at the time of pickup.

Looks like a floor pan, i am no mechanic or don't have any idea what that is, so I just typed what ever i read from the sheet

The original call was for fixing a leak, but that wasn't mentioned in thier work order, but instead it said about installation of SILL COVER PLATE and BRACKET KIT and there was some red powder on the passenger sheet and it smelled like a chemical.

I tried googling with all the numbers I can see in the work order but no help, so if any one had taken their car for recall fix in the past, they might understand the codes(numbers) I have mentioned in my original post.

but there is definitely improment in driving after this installation

Easy or easily? It might be a good idea to make sure your post is perfect before casting the stone. My feeling is that you are being somewhat harsh.

I think that the post points out a need to ask about any recalls next time I go in and I appreciate getting a heads up. Fred

Thank you.

As I said earlier, the call I got from my dealer was for fixing a leak in the roof and the service person who called me also explained to me in detail about what eaxactly they will do to my car, but for some reason this work (fixing the leak) is not mentioned anywhere in the invoice.

INSTEAD it had totaly different thing which made me guess that they are intentionally hiding this on purpose.

I wiill try to take a photo copy of this work order if possible and post it, so that, its easily understood.

I've had recalls on my last vehicle (a ford, go figure). The parent company usually sets forth a plan of contact and repair so that they don't get overloaded with work or run out of parts, etc. You can call in and ask about it or wait your turn.

RECALLS could be for certain VIN numbers too or may be for cars that were assembled in certain plants or may be for an area like MIDWEST\ WEST\ EAST\ SOUTH we never really know

Here's a copy of the recall.

2008–2009 NISSAN VERSA; VOLUNTARY SERVICE CAMPAIGN SILL COVER PLATENissan has determined that on some 2008-2009 Versa Sedan and Hatchback vehicles, a sill cover plate is needed to prevent water intrusion into the interior of the vehicle. To remedy this potential condition, Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Service Campaign to install a sill cover plate at no charge for parts of labor.

In the future, if anyone gets wind of a recall or TSB, please do everything you can to get the official Nissan issued reference number.

Without this number, it is pretty much pointless to post. Dealers and service departments are notorious for playing dumb when it comes to recalls, TSBs and known common problems. Especially with the poor economy, all of the car manufacturers are watching their pennies and warranty repairs impact their bottomline. If you show up or call without the reference number, it's too easy for them to say there is no recall or they can't find one.

Fact: Every recall and TSB ever issued has a reference number and they can call up the info with it on their computers.

So next time, get the official reference number if you really want to make a difference.

I wonder what they did differently in 2007 to make this an un-needed recall?

Here you go!

i just recieved the official notice from NISSAN USA actually after the fix

The official reference number for this recall is P8224

The official recall notice says

"On Certain 2008-2009 Versa Sedan and hatchback vehicles, a sill cover plate is needed to prevent water intrusion into the interior of the vehicle"

Hope this helps

I went in today for a VA State Inspection and my V is not one of the recalled vehicles. According to my dealer only a few Versa have his problem.

So it applies only to certain cars

Has anyone so far had a problem with their Versa leaking, and if so where? I've had my Versa(08 hatch) since June and after leaving it in its first heavy rainstorm saturday the car had a descent amount of water puddled up on the right hand side, I had the trunk cover on so I don't think it leaked in from the ceiling.

I haven't had any issues on my 09 sedan. Hopefully all these water problems had been addressed before mine was built. But I would be nice if we can get a list of the VIN's affected by this.

TSB # NTB08-069Campaign ID - P8224No VINs are lised, just '08 and '09 Sedan and H/B

It is only on the Right (pass.) Rear door sill. It doesn't involve any red powder. Just silicone selant which is probably what was smelled as a 'chemical'.

Nissan had a plate that was rigged up in this location for body placement and movability on the assembly line. They moved the mount location on certain vehicles and did not require this mount anymore. They put a piece of adhesive to seal it off, but in extremely wet environments the adhesive can fail causing water intrusion into the carpet. Now they go in and put a metal plate with silicon on the back to completely block off the holes. This will not repair a headliner leak, this is contained to the floorboard. There are very few cars that this applies to, which is why most of you will not get a notice about this.
