I have 2008 Sedan that would not start this morning so I opened the hood for a jump and now it will not lock down. The safety catch will latch but when I try to push the hood all the way down, the locking mechanism that is on there will not engage and keep the hood all the way down. This has happened before a couple of years ago and as I recall there is another spring below the main one that needs to engage for the lock to fully latch. Any advise for a quick fix or should I bite the bullet and take it to a dealer? The car had a front end collison so it could be that the hood is not fully engaged but this was fixed with a screwdriver last time so I was just wondering if anyone out here had encountered this same type of problem.

Never heard of something like that happening. You might need to take it to the dealer for this one, but I'd wait and see if anybody else has any ideas

The black rubber hood stop bushings are adjustable by turning them but it doesn't sound like that's the problem.

Dealer says the hood release cord is binding up and will replace it for $160 parts and labor. The hood is down now and I am planning to get it fixed. Thought I would post this in case someone else runs into this problem.

BTW, the front end was totally rebuilt a couple years ago after an accident so that may be the cause of the binding. Better to get it fixed now.
