Picked up a loaded Super Black SL last friday and want to get the windows tinted. I'm in VA, so the law is 50/35. Anyway I'm interested in any pics of Super Black cars with tint... the brand of tint and etc. Also, do metallic tints seem to mess with the Bluetooth, Nav, satellite radio, etc.? TIA,

Dave

hey man. welcome. looks we got the same car.....unless you have the 3.5. im just up the beltway from you in silver spring, md. yes metalic tints will mess with reception. im also looking to get some tint thrown on my car. seems like some people on these forums who got their cars tinted are having some trouble with the dot matrix on teh rear window.

The car is a 2.5SL with the bell and whistles, so our cars are probably the same. I really like it, but let me try and stay on track here.

So far I'm leaning towards letting the people at LATint.com do the car with Pinnacle. Supposedly it is a ceramic non-conductive film that will not interfere with various RF. In our cars that might be: TPMS, Bluetooth, Sat Radio, Navigation. The other Formula One tints they are have are either metallics or the base "Classic", which is a dyed film and from what I read some shops will not even use it.

Not sure if I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill, I just don't want to have some tint slapped on that creates other issues. The car is going on a trip next week and I had hoped to try and get it done before then... but I don't want to rush it. I called a place in town here tonight and the quoted me $350 and weren't sure what they used for film. Who knew there was so much to consider with tint?

I have the sl with tech package and went with porcelin(sp) tint-works great no issues with radio at all including AM.Sorry no pics but with black it looks awesome. Had many people say it looks great.I noticed a huge difference in keeping the car cool as well even with the 30%

$350? Unless that is some really expensive tint, $350 is really high. I used High Performance Solar Gard tint and it cost me $180. Not sure the diff. between the two tint films.

I agree that $350 is high for a product they're not even sure about. The guy only tints on Wednesdays, which enthuses me even less.

It would seem tint price numbers change geographically... places like Florida and Arizona it is pretty cheap to get a quality tint job done. The demand is probably twice what it is here in VA. Not sure how that $350 job compares to your tint, since they weren't even sure what their guy used.

I think I'm going to go with the folks at LATint.com and use their Pinnacle product. Since I have so many electronics that a metallic tint might mess with, I have two choices with them essentially, the classic dyed tint or the most expensive ceramic. From what I gather, the Classic is pretty poor film, with some shops even refusing to install it. The Pinnacle material is a ceramic film that should not interfere with electronics as opposed to their metallic tints. Their cost is $329, but the FormulaOne website has a $25 coupon you can print out but has an expiration of Oct. 2007. LA Tint's site has a coupon for 10% off, but that is expired as well... I'll certainly have both on hand to see if they will honor them.

When i got my ride tinted the guy showed me some tints called "ceramic" -- made by some German company? They were about $250.00 installed. But the guy pulled out a heat lamp and put it behind some regular tinted windows and one with the ceramic style. Absolutely huge difference. Almost no heat (UV's) made it thru the ceramic, the standard tints, which i reluctantly went for, you could feel the heat coming right thru. Ask about it, i wish i would have gone that route. Be well.

So I just bought an 08' Nissan Altima. I am in VA and I got my tinting job at TNT Tinting in VA Beach. I got 20% all the way around and a 10" strip in the front. I got it for $209. No bops have given me any problem with it being that dark.

That's cool about your 20% tint... but knowing people who have received tickets for their tint... I'm going with what is legal. Getting ticketed and having to remove the tint is not worth risk for me.

Still no tint for me either.... been too busy with other things.
