Had the oil and filters changed and tires rotated and balanced today. Drove about an hour and a half at high speed, all good, but when we got to the city, Rogue 2008 started to shake when idling, more like an intermittent shiver, almost felt like it was going to stall. Happened with and without a/c on. RPMs stayed between .5 and 1 with small surges but nothing extreme when idling.

Also noticed a little surge when I braked to a stop. Will call mechanic in the am but am planning a 3 hour trip in the morning. Does this sound like something I shouldn't be traveling with? Thanks!

Well check the oil for sure and make sure the level is up where it should be. If it runs well at highway speed it could just be a vacuum leak or something like that, a tech may have leaned on something he shouldn't have and loosened up a vacuum line which could cause some hesitation at idle. If it ran well at highway speed, and there is no "check engine" warning, and the oil level is up as well as all other fluids then you should be fine to drive it, in my opinion, but of course it's impossible to know 100%. If it were me I would drive it but get it back to the shop as soon as you can so they can correct whatever they did to screw things up.

Thanks! I have a feeling he'll say he can't tell without looking at it but he's over an hour away and not in the direction I'm going tomorrow. No "check engine" warning, maybe I'll just take it in locally and have them check the oil level and hope for the best.

No need to pay a mechanic to check your oil level, before starting it in the morning just take 30 seconds to check it, pull the dipstick, wipe it off, reinsert and remove and make sure the level is between the L and the H.

I have that problem too but never really cared much about it. I have that problem for about a year now since I installed my intake. One day I removed my intake and installed oem air filter but the problem is still there. Never worried about it much because it is happening only on stops and like you said nothing extreme.

I just got a 2010 Rogue SL 3 weeks ago and experienced the same thing yesterday. Went to the Dealership. The tech guy will call me on this. but I am extremely disppointed to see the shake on a brand new car. Otherwise, I like the Rogue.

Please let us know how this turns out. And don't worry, having a minor issue on a new vehicle is relatively common, that's why you have a 1-year "adjustment period" and 3 year warranty. I know it still sucks, but I'm sure they'll diagnose and repair the problem quickly and you'll then be in for years of trouble free driving.

I have had this problem from day one. Currently sitting at almost 58000. Does not do it all the time, just on occassion, idle will drop and you can feel car "vibrate" as if the engine is about to stall, but it never does. After a fraction of a second all is well again. I had my dealer look at it, but they could not find anything unusual. Right now my bigger problem is the excessive engine noise when in D or R at idle. Almost sound like the AC compressor kicking in and out( even without AC on) Dealer adjusted idle but still there and seems to be getting louder. I have had this for at least 1.5 years, after 3th CVT was installed( no its not the CVT causing the sound)

I noticed the sudden drop in idle for the first time the other day. I didn't stall.

If it reoccurs, I may try to the idle air volume learning procedure:

g35-how-to-reset-ecu-throttle-pedal-rel ... 56397.html

The instructions are for a G35/350Z but applies to the Rogue as well.

They did the idle air volume reset and it still does it. Just one of those quirks with this car. I still love our Rogue, but I would not buy another one.

That problem was bugging me more and more often these days but it seems to be the problem is solved but still I'll keep an eye on it. I asked my friend who was doing oil change in his shop today about this problem and he said it right away: "Low coolant!" He opened the cap and coolant was low. After pouring some antifreeze to radiator and container I did like 50 stops and never experienced that problem. He says that he see that problem almost on every new car with VVT engine in it. It's funny but I tried to use 93 octane for 3 weeks already with complete fuel system cleaner from STP and it didn't help. I even thought this is alternator is not good anymore and tried to find 120A instead of current 90A. But I do have to get capacitor for my subwoofer just in case. Anyway...anybody else checked the coolant who experienced that problem?

Wierd.

BTW, I just had my coolant flushed/filled the dealer last week. $110 for the service and they even did a multi-point inspection and washed my car! I really can't be bothered to by the coolant and do it myself for that price.

Of course, they wanted to do a MAF sensor cleaning and fuel injector cleaning. No Thanks. But they did find some cracking on the accessory drive belt. Got a new belt and replaced it myself.

Might look at the belt later just in case...good tip. Not a bad idea I would say about MAF sensor but I can clean it myself in about 30 min(at least that's what took me to clean it on my audi a4). BTW it is a second day w/o vibrations.

Leo2005,

I did not get the MAF or fuel injector service done. Not sure if it would help, but it certainly cannot hurt if done correctly.

Yeah I know. I was saying it's just not a bad idea when it comes to maintenance questions.

About my car's vibration problem, obviously, the dealership couldn't find anything, cause it would act nicely while at the shop. But it did happen a few times afterward, and I'm planning to look into the coolent when I get home today.

This is interesting, a few ideas floating around but no solid solution other than Leo who seems to have solved the problem on his own by topping up the fluid. It is tough to get a solid diagnosis and solution for intermittent problems like this, so the more discussion and sharing of the "guess and test methods" such as coolant top up, the better.

Regarding MAF and fuel injector cleaning, in my experience this shouldn't need to be done on a newer vehicle, even if you put on a lot of highway miles you shouldn't have to consider this until well after 100,000 miles and possibly never! The only vehicles that I've even considered this as an otion were very old with high mileage. But like was said, it certaintly can't do any harm if performed correctly.

Thanks for sharing the info, keep it coming please!

Its funny.. i recently noticed my 08 Rogue shuddering, or vibrating for a couple of seconds at idle also.. it would come and go, and not always occur.
Other than that it seemed to drive fine.

I just took it in today to the dealer, and after 4 hours they called me saying that they are seeing a cylinder misfire, and need to run some more tests. I wasn't expecting that at all..

I have about 31k miles on it.

Stay tuned..
