Hello Everyone, I am a new NICO member and really enjoying this site.

My question is concerning the mileage I am getting out of my 2008 Spec.I have filled it up 3 times now, and have yet to drive it hard, mixed city/highway driving, and it is winter here in Montreal. I drive it until the gas light goes on and then some. The most KM's I got out of it so far is about 320km/Full Tank Of Supereme Gas. The computer say's I am doing about 12.8/100. My question is, is this a normal amount of KM's/Tank, and is the computer accurate ???

P.S. I got this 2008 Spec cause my 2003 Spec gat stolen about 2 months ago. The 2 are like night and day, major improvements in the 2008. Can't wait to see what she can do once all this damn snow melts !!!

That sounds about right. Car companies have developed the bad habit of posting the MPG of the engine when it is seperate from the car and running at a constant low RPM(usually about 2,500). When you attach several thousand pounds to the engine they just use a math formula to compensate but the real MPG is usually 5-10 less than what it says. For example, my 06 Spec V has topped out at 25 MPG (And that is 50 miles a day in cruise control) and I have never used anything less than premium. The sticker said 23-31 when I bought it. So it is not uncommon to get less performance than you expect. FYI they also do the same thing for HP. Auto Magazines only dyno'ed the spec v at 157 HP when the list is 175. So don't always believe what you read.

Thanks for the response. These car companies are cracked. With the numbers they posted I figured I would have got at a minimum 400km/tank driving a mix of city/highway not pushing the car.

I was way off !!! LOL

I also use premium gas (as they recommend), is there anything else that can be done to improve the mileage ?

In the US they have changed the way the measure mileage and horsepower to be more accurate as of last year.

25mi/gal is very normal for an SE-R, or any QR25-powered vehicle, if not a little on the good side. Low 20's are very common.

The ECU does some adjusting during the break in period, so yours may start to pick up in the near future, frankie.

not to mention breaking in piston rings so they seal against the cylinder walls better and combust the gasoline better. one of the true signs of complete piston ring break in is significant increases in gas mileage (2-3mpg). I have an 08 SpecV and I averaged over the last 3 tanks 28.2mpg or about 400 miles per tank.

SE R not spec v and the read out is 10.4/100 right now but doing the math myself I have found it to be actually less then what the computer thinks.

The engine's got lot of low end torque so you can always up shift early around 2 to 2.5k rpm. The key to good fuel economy is looking far ahead so you coast to slow down instead of braking. I have gotten 9.8 on the computer read out before driving carefully.

I have a 2008 spec v, and I am on my 3rd tank as well, I got 415 km on my last tank and that was before the light came on, so it should get better for ya.

Thanks for all your input people !!! Much Appreciated.

I am at about 2200km's with my car and the mileage did improve from when I started this post which I then had about 100km's

I still am in awe of how some of you got the numbers you did (400km and the light didn't go on) that is amazing !

How much time/KM does it take for the engine to get fully broken in ???

you must be driving like a grandma, lmao no offense. I have the 2.0 and im getting Max 300 miles to a tank. most of the time its lower(250-280). Than again, i do 80mph+ on a daily basis, but still my car isnt reving over 3krpms at high ways speeds, maybe to pass people but idk. Probably just my agressive driving habbits thats cause my bad milage.

unless the se-r has a bigger gas thank. that would make more sense to me how you got 400 miles to a tank.

On my 2003 Spec V I shift early about at 2.5K and cruise on the 6th from 1.5k to 3.2K on the highway. I don't carry load on my car though. And I use smaller 15" wheels.

lol I don't feel like I'm driving like a grandma. I am regularly passing people on the highway, I almost always floor it when on onramps to redline in 3rd gear then shift to 4th and then quickly after that to 6th gear and cruise. I use 6th gear a lot almost anytime I'm over 45mph and cruising.

I got 32mpg last time on my trip to Richmond about 4.5 hours or 360miles. Our fuel tank capacities according to NissanUSA.com are both 14.5 in the 2.0 and the SpecV's. 32 mpg over 14.5 gallons is 464miles. 28 mpg is 406 miles, usually though thats when the gas light comes on and I have about another 20 miles till dry.

Study EPA MPG Dyno test proceedure. The only way to get published numbers is to drive exactly as the test! Single driver weighting no more than 160 pounds, no ac, and stay under 61 mph even in a pass, no hills.

have you ever got anything less 14 gallons to fill up. besides the fact if u leave a couple gallons. but everytime since i noticed that i would only be filing up with 10-11 gallons nearly on empty i thought it kinda strange.

There's some leeway when the gauge gets close to empty and/or the light comes on. Sometimes it's just a gallon, sometimes it's more.
