A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Bought a new 2008 Sentra S 6sp MT back in Feb and have had an ongoing issue with the transmission.

Any time I ease off the accelerator in 4th, 5th and 6th gear, I can hear a high pitched whining sound. Started noticing it before 1,000 miles and brought it to the dealership. They test drove the car and told me it was normal. The sound kept getting louder and the dealership agreed to replace the transmission at 2,500 miles.

The sound was still there after the swap, just not as loud. 4,000 miles on the car now and whine is back. Nissan USA says it is normal once again and refuses requests for additional work on car. They are in the process of finding another 2008 6sp for me to test drive, but it feels like they're stalling as much as they can.

I have uploaded a video to YouTube documenting the issue:

I have driven many manual transmission cars over the years (Honda, Toyota, Ford, VW, Volvo, Porsche, Fiat, GM...) and never had a transmission make this much noise. There is no way this is normal.

Anybody else have a similar experience? At this point I just want my money back and move on.

Definitely doesn't seem normal, but this is the first I've heard of such an issue. Keep bugging them, legally they have to uphold the warranty if the part fails. Unfortunately, being annoying isn't enough of a failure to do anything. At this point, you can't try to lemon law it. I'm not really sure what you can do but wait or try to get rid of the car.

start beating the hell out of it so it does break lol... sorry to hear about this. really sucks. I know in my last car i had a bad whine but that was the some bad bearing in the rear end of the car. the noise makes you mental after awhile

do you also have the "notchy" problem i hear the other manual 07+ members are having?

Im just throwing this idea out here: Did you try going to another Nissan Dealer Just tell them the whole story about your car and { sound very sad too} when you tell them and sometimes you will run into some good and bad service departments. I had ran into this problem one time when I wanted a service done to my Nissan I dropped my car early in the morning around 8:00am they told me "it will be done at the end of the day" so, I said O.K. I went to the Dealer around 5:30 and the car was in the same spot where I parked it I said what happen? he told me I forgot about it " we were so busy today can you bring it in tomorrow? " I said alright so I broght it back the next day at 8:00am gave him the keys. came by at 5:00 the same day He told me: { I am so sorry the part for you car is the wrong one} I said just give me my keys and call me! He went inside the dealership and LOST my F**K*N KEYS!!! so , after a hour he found them in another car service envelope Then, the next day I went to another dealership and told them the whole story {in frount of customers} and said we are going to take care of you I promise. Then gave me a dealer company car to drive to work that day then called me at work and told me your car is done!! Thats right THE SAME DAY!!! So, I hope my story will help you just TRY it and SEE what happens

Thanks for the feedback. I may end up doing that. What really sucks is that the closest option is 30+ mins away from my house which is over an hour away from where I work. The whole reason I went with Nissan was because this dealership was so conveniently located. I'll be in the same boat as before with my Hyundai which I traded in.

Sux....

Believe it or not, this issue still has not been resolved and the problem is getting worse.

Check out my new videos documenting the whining sound getting louder during driving as well as a new knocking sound in the transmission:

Knocking sound definitely should get their attention. Sounds like they'll owe you a trans soon.
