I just bought a new to me rogue, it had everything my family needed. Low kms. Leather and everything in between.

I bought it from a used dealer and already knew about them replacing the foglight (which is broken) and a flashing set light on cruise control and can't be shut off which they claim is the module ( I would like some clarification on this ) which are both getting replaced this week.

Now an engine light came on P0455 gross evap leak. I did a search and a common problem is the gas cap. I replaced the gas cap with a newer one and it's been about 4 days of trips and it hasn't reset itself. I have refueled since then a couple times and always make sure it goes on right.

I also had a weird thing happen last night when I was driving and the vdc light and slip light both came on and I couldn't turn it off until I shut the car off. It didn't come back on but now it's bothering me.

I'm coming from VW as our family car went kaput and I want to be able to fix most of these problems myself.

So to recap:

1) cruise control set light flashing and stuck on, module? Or some other problem?
2) PO455 gas cap or other problem ?
3) VDC light and slip light stuck on last night randomly
4) Foglights easy to replace ? Incase the housing breaks again. I watched a video but it wasn't in depth.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post, just stressing.

Did your vehicle come with any kind of warranty? Have you contacted the dealership about these problems?

Well other than the foglight and cruise control issue the only warranty I have is for safety related issues.

We booked an appointment with their mechanic this coming Monday. I just wanted to see if the P0455 code would come back so I cleared it and it came back after 2 restarts. After some reading on here I am confident it is the Vent Control Valve as a gas cap did not make a difference.

Overall I am happy they are fixing the problems but I just wanted clarification here if these problems are as easy to fix as they claim such as "it's just the cruise control module so we will order one" vs on here where I can't find a single thread about a failed module. I just don't know anything about Nissan as I'm a VW guy and a rotary guy.

Also while I'm here I'm planning on going to Nissan tomorrow because my transmission is making a whine at 70-90 km/h when accelerating to pass. My car is still under warranty for the transmission 10yrs/200k i have 155,000kms on it. It didn't happen on the test drive or drive home. Hopefully Nissan doesn't give me a big problem in warranty work.

Nissan booked me in for an appointment for the CVT next week and won't charge for diag. He said whining is definitely not normal for a CVT especially at light loads. He said if it's barely going out they will still replace the transmission.

Well, at least you've gotten some positive news about the transmission. Keep us informed.

Update. They replaced the ecm and programed it from Nissan. Problem persists. They also forgot to program my second intellikey. :( This cruise control issue is starting to become annoying

Vent Control Valve is easy to clean or replace. There is a DIY thread, maybe the one you've already read.

Yes mpattdu I read that thread. I just didn't want to pay out of pocket just yet. As it's 180$ from the dealer just for the part.

Anyways, I was told by Nissan (unofficially) that the only other thing that could be wrong is the cruise control switch. And I mentioned that to the dealer and they said they still want to send it in for diag at Nissan so I guess they will conclude the same awnser.

Funny thing happened, I went to my Nissan appointment for the transmission noise and they didn't even argue for one minute. Technician took it for a 5 minute drive and came back and said it needs a new CVT and service is like come back in four days and we will install it. I was ready for a fight as I'm not the original owner and have no receipts for maintenance.

And to top it off I was parked idling waiting for then to open and I hear a loud bang pop noise and vdc and slip lights come on and stay on. Turn the car off and went away. Searched and was told to check fluid so I did and it's at the max. Hmm I just hope it doesn't lock anything while I'm at highway speeds.

I would try cleaning it. I'm going on 9 years with my '08 Rogue and have done it twice. Takes maybe a half hour. Well worth the time to save the $180.

Tried cleaning it to no avail.

Went to the dealership and basically had me doubting if it's really the VCV as he said why replace it when we can smoke it and make sure it's not the wiring or a small vac line. And to not bother replacing ....

On a positive note the dealer that fixed my car under used car warranty took it to Nissan and instead of just throwing parts at it they actually scanned it and the problem with the Cruise Control was the brake switch... So in other words they paid 1000$ for a 70$ part + labour as they replaced the ECM twice ...
