Looking to find out if anyone has had a oil cooler leak at the top of the cooler and is there any way that there is a gasket inside of it that would need to be replaced. I have looked at the drawings of the cooler and obviously the gasket that I have seen is the paper one that goes against the motor. Today, I had just dumped a bottle of engine oild seeler in. I'm just looking for some direction if anyone had encountered this prolem. Don't want to spend a ton of cash???????

dude you do realize those oil sealers clog up tiny oil passages... and make the oil MUCH too thick in this cold weather. id get rid of that crap ASAP.

there are some times that cheaper fixes work - and other times it can ruin more than it can fix. this is one of those times i wouldnt try and cheap out.

Dude, got it thanks. Can you tell me then, what would be the best and cheapest fix. I did see in one forum while browsing that the 4 bolts on top of the cooler can be taken off and "make" your own gasket from gasket material. Yes???? If so can you or anyone tell me what thickness would be the best?????? Thought about taking it apart when I replaced the main gasket that goes against the motor itself.

you do realize a gasket (metal or paper) is only a few dollars, right? you could use RTV, but its probably NOT recommended/done at the factory. if you are already removing the part, just spend the <$25 and get a proper gasket.

using RTV isnt complex. just build a bead thats a lil thinner than the surface area. let it set for a few minutes to harden. gently apply the part, and screw in the part HALF WAY. let it set for an hour or so. then come back and gently screw in the part to torque spec

Well, DAH!!!!! I could have told you that. You really have not given me any good information. Yes, I understand the RTV s***, but I'm just looking to see if anyone has had a similar problem. OBVIOUSLY you have not had this problem. Thought this forum would be a great tool. I guess not.

ok smartass, listen up:
  • 1). your ungrateful attitude wont be tolerated. especially coming from a genius who thought it was a good idea to plug up his oil lines with some $5 quick-fix in a bottle. honestly, i didn't expect such an ungrateful attitude. better take what you can get, and like it. moving on.

2). this isnt a free website with mechanics on stand by at your beck and call. this is a forum filled with very knowledgeable staff & members, that might not have crossed this exact problem before. did that ever cross your mind; that the rest of us, might have NOT, crossed your problem before? do you expect us to know and have gone through every single issue regarding the Rogue that member's post about? you are asking questions, and getting answers for as many as possible. take what you can, and be thankful. those of us who are more knowledgeable regarding engines/cars/transmissions/etc might also offer up some advice that you might already know. be thankful someone is taking time out of their busy day - to give a rats butt about a perfect stranger(you).
nubs2112 wrote:You really have not given me any good information.
the best advice i gave you is to dump the garbage you filled your engine with. that quick-fix in a bottle is acting like blood-clots not only on your initial leak, but in tiny vital oil passages. this advice i have offered you, alone, might have just saved you thousands of dollars. so take your ungratefulness and shove it elsewhere. continue with your attitude, and ill give you some time off to think about your behavior.

PS: i am allowing this thread to stay open, not to continue your BS- but in hopes someones has come across this issue and might offer your ungrateful a** some help.

Speaking of "tool," you're the one who thought you could fix an oil leak by dumping a bottle of Magical Mystery Unicorn Semen in your engine. :)

You've got a $25,000 car - Fix it right. We've ALL had fluid leaks at some point or another, and we've all learned (some of us the hard way) that there's really only one way to fix it - The RIGHT way.

There's no need to be a butthole to someone who's trying to help you, especially when they know more about the Rogue than most Nissan techs.

With that said, welcome aboard - Start over, do an oil change ASAP before that goo screws up your engine, and we might even be able to find you that gasket for a lot less money.

Fair enough?

Ok, well said. My bad. Just thought that may have been a good fix. I get it. I apologize for the rant, just looking for some good old advice. Just called local dealer and I think what I will do is take the part off and take it to dealer and ask them about it.
Please accept my appology.

no problem.

did you see the link to an ebay auction i posted? the two gaskets are only $22 shipped. if you can take the part off, just pop on the gasket, and pop the part back on. if that doesnt solve the leak, maybe the part somehow warped (or hopefully not the spot the part bolts too).

Yes I did see those parts. Yes, I agree I should have recieved both of those but I only got the "paper" gasket hence that is why I will take the whole part to the dealer and show them. Thanks for your help.

Hahaha, nope. The hazing is complete. :)

I'm guessing the dealer will go ahead and give you the "molded" gasket. If not, don't be afraid to ask them how they expect someone to replace the part WITHOUT replacing that critical gasket... After all, it created a leak, and I'm pretty sure their Techs wouldn't only use one part of the gasket kkit.

Where is this oil cooler located, is it easily accessible? Is this a common issue with the Rogue engine?

To the gentleman from New Jersey who was inquiring about the oil cooler. I did take the cooler lines off and also took the entire cooler off of the vehicle to get a good look at what I was doing. Yes there are 4 bolts on top of the unit. Take those off and you will find a rubber gasket on there wipe off and clean the area, place the new gasket in the groove that it sits in put your cover back on and tighten the bolts. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!!!! By doing that you will strip the threads and no I did not do that. Hook your cooler lines back up. Yes there will be a some coolant that leaks out A LOT. Be prepared to fill your coolant back up. Yes I did learn the hard way. Knock on wood I have not had any oil leaking since I did it.
