So I went to glendale infiniti for service and I ended up speaking with one of the managers about the next gen Q. To my suprise, he says they already have one bulit and are in testing phases, but everyone knows these guys know just as much as you and I right?. Not this time! So the guy was elated to go in futher conversation with me and decided to show me some photos (not renderings) of a long car (audi like but bulkier and bigger than the new ls460 IMO or same size) and had alot of tape and covers around the car and was unable to really make anything out. He went on to say that it will have a 400hp engine in the standard and there will be a long wheelbase hybrid just like the lexus as well with a different engine. When I go back to pick up my car I'm going to take some pictures of it and post it on the site.

I know.. sounds far fetched but I just thought I'd share the sparse information from what he told me. If you dont beleive me just drive down to the dealership yourself. He said the info is going leaked out soon regarding the specs, engine, etc about the car so he seemed care free of sharing the information.

After driving back all the way home I stopped at the wheelwarehouse in Anaheim tofollow up with my sales guy who I been dealing with "Caesar" and he seemed to know about this as well. He was also the one who test fitted the 22's on my car that you can find pics floating on this forum. Currently, Im just trying to decide which company to order my Auto couture wheels from and negotiating the best deal possible because I have WestCoastcustoms.com on the side as well.

Anyway, dont take my word for it, feel free to call Casesar if you want and you can talk to him about the next Gen Q45 as well.. he has seen the pics also or drive down to the dealership in Glendale.

Oh yeh.. Caesar also knows both owners of the Q45's ... the one on the Axis.com website as the project with the 20x8.5 in front and 20x11 in the rear. The other was on the streetconcepts1.com website with the 21' lowenardt's. I was impressed that this guy made one phone call to each of these guys right of the back and they both picked up. Basically we needed to find out if the rear tires rubbed on both vehicles and as it turns out they both do. Caesar is trying to get me to go with 20x9 on all corners but I told I'm only going with the staggered setup. So if any of you have questions about those cars hit him up about that as well.

Later!

Weeks ago I attended the Atlanta Auto show. Guess what was missing from Nissan/Infiniti's lineup???

When I asked why there was no Q, their rep just shrugged his shoulder.

That's awesome. I hope it lives up to it's legacy.

Infiniti should reduce their car names to mere letters. It should just be the Infiniti Q.

I sincerely hope this is for real.

Now that the GT-R is going to Nissan, Infiniti needs a high-dollar halo ride.

I doubt it will be a truck engine. Look for a 5.5L V10, at least in our dreams.

Why? It already IS a truck engine. Just lower displacement.

This is not good news.

If Nissan finally designs a Q that catches on with the public, how will I buy one a few years later for 10 cents on the dollar?

Only if you thinkg the twin turbocharged Porsche V8 in the Cayenne are also truck engines.

Bore to stroke ratios change everything when it comes to flexibility and rev limits.

Oh, I see. I thought you meant that they wouldn't use the VK (because of the V10 reference).

A long time back, when the 4.1 Liter Q45 was introduced, I wrote up a letter to Infiniti corporate folks ... did not send it (I'll have to see if I can find it somewhere).

Basically, I told them they were going backwards! What they needed was a 6.0 liter, V-12, super-luxury model.

And call it it a "Z60".

Good news about the Q. Better news that you go to Glendale Infiniti. Those guys have the best service. They won't say no to anything. BTW I live in Glendale. Peace.

6 speed, the LS has 8 speeds, Infiniti is already behind the curve with all the cars out there with 5, they need to shoot for 8, shoot 9 to out do Lexus.

WHY?

There's no need!

That's what I always liked about Nissan/Infiniti: they did was was best, not what would make them look cooler than the other guy. Do you need 9 gears in an automatic? I think not. Even 7 seems excessive to me. I rarely use 5th in the Maxima.

We don't need 3 overdriven gears and 72 lower gears. Our cars are not Hondas. I laugh everytime I start from a red light next to a civic. He goes through 3 gears before I finish first. And I don't have any problem with bogging or overrevving at anypoint in that gear. I'd rather spend more time USING power than hunting for it. When you've got a decent broad range of power like the VK offers, you just plain don't need that many gears. You get to a point when shifting becomes a waste of time. When you're shifting every couple of seconds, you're at that point.

Even in my 93 Maxima, I can hit 70 in second gear, no trouble. Why would I want to cram 2 more gears into that space? And the VK has a broader range of power, and more power. There is absolutely no need for 4 gears in the space where 2 will do.

More gears just for the sake of having more gears than the next guy is stupid. I can see 9 speeds on a manual trans racecar. MAYBE. But on a LUXURY car? Ridiculous.

A lot of companies are using more gears to get better mileage. A lot of customers are shopping for good mileage. Infiniti is struggling in that department because their volume car only gets 25mpg highway 17 city on average, vs. a BMW 3 Series getting 21city and 30 highway with a 6 speed auto.

BMW has it's 7 speed SMG, and they can get away with that because most of the buyers for the cars that have that transmission really aren't on a budget and gas mileage isn't their #1 concern anyway - they just like SMG because its sporty and sounds good. But those transmissions cost money. In the Volkswagen GTI, they have the 6-speed DSG transmission (which is miles better than the SMG), but it adds nearly $2k to the price of the car. So you figure for $2k less you can just get the standard 6-speed manual.

Lexus and Infiniti buyers are buying mid-luxury. Meaning they can afford a luxury car, but not TOO much luxury (most of the time). Eight or 9 speed automatic makes no sense in a G35 because it's going to cost too much for a volume car. Now, step up to the Q45. Sure, you can add an 8 or 9 speed auto, but then you no longer have a "great car for less money". How do you sell gas mileage to someone buying a V8 (or more ) vehicle that costs $75-80k? Considering a V8 alone should tell you they're not thinking about gas mileage.

My point: 6-speed auto makes sense and is sellable. 7-speed gets expensive. 8-speed plus is flat out overboard and unneccessary, not to mention extremely costly when that transmission decides to give out. Overall maintenance costs can bring down a cars value in the long run - the 90-93 Q45's with chain guide issues, the 92 Q's with the transmission recalls, and the injector issues are a prime example of this.

Thats what I say when people complain about new Buicks with 4-speed automatics. Why would a torquey 3800 need extra gears? Its an old-fashioned turbine-smooth OHV engine that gets 29mpg. More gears is just more expense for Buick customers who just don't care. Heck, most of them dont have the physical ability to push the throttle pedal anyway.
