2008 Pathfinder LE - HomeLink non-functional, fuses seem fine

So, because this is a common theme in threads about homelink....

I have followed the instructions multiple times, even followed them to excess, checked fuses, and searched multiple forums and the manual for solutions

Sorry, but I read 3 threads where OP got HAMMERED to follow the Homelink instructions to hold buttons 1 and 3 for at least 20 seconds, and even when OP said "yeah, I did that, it didn't work" people would just repeat themselves.

The mirror has a green light, auto dims, turns on and off, no symptoms of IOD (Ignition Off Draw) fuse, all related fuses i could find have continuity. When pressing a Homelink button (any button) there is no indication of function. Same with holding buttons 1 and 3 to clear programming. Even when held for as long as 5 minutes (my fingers are cramping remembering it.... or it might just be writing this on mobile).

Ignition always in on position when testing, usually with engine off too.

I'm baffled. I don't know if the Homelink ever worked. I only discovered it because we moved and have a garage door opener now and wanted to program the mirror.
