I have having issues with the fuel system indications on my 2008 Nissan pathfinder. Basically the fuel gauge and the fuel computer are erratic and do not agree. This issue started about 24-months ago and Nissan initially replaced the fuel sensor (recalled part). Now the issue is back again. I went back to my dealer and they said sorry warrenty on replacement part only valid for 6-months
So here is the issue. The fuel tank gauge will read half-full after only having driven about 175km (108miles). The fuel computer will display a distance to empty of approx. 220km (136miles). Then when the fuel gauge indicates a 1/4 tank the fuel computer will display a distance to empty of "0". Usually when I fill up the tank and have a full tank indication the fuel computer will indicate a distance to empty of roughly 450km (280miles). I recently had to replace the battery and the fuel computer no indicates 550km to empty. I found that a little strange for it to occur after the battery was replaced.
So in my quest for fault isolation here are my questions.
1. Are the fuel gauge and the fuel computer directly linked?
2. Is the fuel float sensor in the tank directly connected to the fuel gauge or the fuel computer (or both)?
3. Solution to fix this pain in the a** issue?
I brought the vehicle to my local Nissan dealer and they wanted to charge me about $1000USD to fix it (I live in the Middle East)
Appreciate the feedback.
Sean
