I bought my 2008 Nissan Rogue S AWD pre owned from a Nissan Dealership in Utah. I have had quite a few problems, but most recently, I have completely lost the luxury of having a working Keyless Entry Remote ( its the Key/Remote Combo ) They only had one key when I bought it. For the first year, it worked fine. For about the next year, i replaced the battery twice, the first replacement, it worked fine. The second replacement, it worked OK for a short time. Now for the last 9 months or so, it has worked on and off, now within the last 3 or 4 months, it has stopped working completely. Today ( 10/27/13 ) I replaced the battery with the CR1620 battery I bought at Radioshack. Battery is fine, but the remote does not work at all. The tiny little light on the actual remote stopped blinking when I press the buttons. I read on a couple of websites that it may just need to be reprogrammed. I also read you can do that yourself. However, if the light on the remote is not working, then is it safe to assume I need a whole new keyless entry remote/key combo? HELPP!!!

Nothing lasts forever, except death! Your key fob is probably 5 years old, so it's most likely worn out. New key fob remotes aren't that expensive. It's the reprogramming that's a PIA.

Single new key fob remote on Amazon.com $40 http://www.amazon.com/Rogue-2007-11-Nis ... B0089K9NH4

Pair of new key fob remotes on ebay $34 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-NEW-NISSAN-KE ... be&vxp=mtr

That Rogue One is one nice guy :dblthumb:

One of the Amazon reviews said this,
paid the dealership $75 to code, cut, and program them
so it will still cost some more after you get the keys. As long as a locksmith has the computer program to do the program I would think they would be much cheaper.

Finding a Locksmith: http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/00 ... -locksmith
While the article tends to be overly cautious (paranoid), there's some sensible advice on it. I'm old school, so I like to pull out the yellow pages to peruse the adverts.

That being said, I don't know about your local, but I live in a rural backwater area, so finding a locksmith capable of reprogramming is a no-go. I seem to recall this issue being discussed elsewhere and the upshot was it required a trip to the dealership.
