2008 Nissan Maxima new remote key

I got a new remote for my car because it only came with one!! I’ve gotten the new key cut but I’m not sure how to program it?? And I read inone of the manuals that it has to be registered. What does that mean?? Thanks for any help you can give me!!

I thought the maxima uses a REMOTE to start the car tho, Not a Key... I have never inserted a key in my ignition

I got it fixed!! I got the key cut and then had to contact a locksmith that does car remotes for a living!! He took care of it with some kind of programming box that plugged into the car!!
