You can switch to synthetic at anytime as long at the motor is new (as in this case) because over time (usually a few years) parts start to come loose and get used to conventional oil molecules (which are slightly bigger then in synthetic oil) and switching after a few years and some 50-60k + miles later can actually cause the synthetic oil to seep or possibly leak through seals and cracks that originally would be "plugged" buy conventional oil molecules. - thats my rough answer, I dont really have the actual technical answer... but you can switch... blending i'm not sure of, but switching i know is ok to do early on.
