Anyone experience this? Had some new parts installed and the one of the rear upper mount bolts broke off. Dealer says it is welded from the top and was told it needed to be drilled out.

This happened to me on my 09 M45x. One of the rear driver side bolts snapped and the shop replaced it. From what I understand, they removed the shock, fed a new bolt up thru the center hole where the actual shock goes and then replaced the shock and tightened it up. The bolt was one that had teeth on it's head to bite into the top of the mount area. It has been about a year and I have had no problems with the installation.

The squeak that I was chasing that caused me to replace the shocks is still there though especially when the weather is on the cool side and wet.

Did you get yours fixed?

Hmm, good to know. I hope I don't run into this issue when I do mine!

Thanks for the replys, The top mount bolts are welded in from the top. What I had to do was basically cut the stud off- Drill out the diameter of the stud and insert a new longer bolt that fit the head of the factory nut. The bolt could not be welded in from the top so I stuck some sand paper in the hole sanded the top and the bottom and used fast set JB WELD to so the bolt wouldn't spin in place when torqued. I let it set over night so that it had time to fully cure. Sprayed a little primer on the bottom of the bolt and used a foam brush to put primer on the top from inside the small hole. Installed the shock and all was done. The dealer said the only way to get to the top is to rip out the entire back seat and deck. Just seemed a little too much.
