Just out of curiosity some people say that the 2008 G35 sedan is faster then the 2008 G37. Is this a rumor or is this true? I've heard people say that the G35 sedan has "acceleration swell" which makes it faster. But then thinking about it, the G37 has a higher horsepower. So whats the truth about this?

According to what I've read, and what has been reported, the acceleration is basically even. The 35 has fewer horsepower but it is also about 200+ pounds lighter. You can search this site for some comparisons.

The general consenses in the G35 forum is that the 08 G35 is faster than the G37 coupe. The G37 coupe is only .2 seconds faster than the G35 coupe, due to its increase in weight. The G35 seden (07-08) is faster than the 07 coupe, so it makes sense that its also faster than the G37. My numbers could be off but thats the general gist.

The G37 sedan is going to be an interesting car to watch if they keep the weight down.

Swell is a term coined by Infiniti that refers to the even sloping curve of the hp/torque band allowed by VVEL. It was also more of a marketing term refering to the body styling and interior lines. It's the one word to describe the new G's. So, the G37 has "swell" too.

Interesting since the G35 doesnt have VVEL.

Just read a Motor trend review tonight that said G37 is .2 seconds faster to 60. G35 and G37 dead even at the Quarter at 103mph. They said the G35 is 100 lbs. lighter. But they also said the 07 G35 was faster to 60 at 5.1 seconds. Kind of sounds like splitting hairs, driver ability will have more bearing on who gets to 60 quicker.

Yes, the G35 coupe is lighter than the G37, and the G35 sedan is even lighter still...

There is not much diff between the G37 and G35 coupes in terms of usable power. So have argued the G35 has more usable power.

This is one are i think Infiniti messed up... they really needed to produce more torque out of the 3.7 to make it quicker...
