I'm thinking of buying a 2008 g37 6mt that has about 15,000miles on it. I will be using it for work and putting about 30 - 35,000 miles per year on it. I love the coupe but with that kind of mileage would it be better to get the sedan? Are there any issues with high mileage on this car. I've heard the brakes don't last too long, is there any truth to that?

Thanks

Welcome to NICO

My only concern would be how was the vehicle treated during those 15k miles? Is this pending purchase from a dealer or private party?Do a carfax check to be sure the vehicle was never in an accident.

If you begin reading the many posts on this site you will discover that there are some that you would not want to purchase a vehicle from.

If you can afford a new one go for it. In any case you've got a warranty with a used one and you could always purchase the extended one as I did. I'm covered until 96k miles. I've had a good experience so far with my 6m sedan and would purchase another one in perhaps another year.

Thanks for the reply, can anyone else out there say if they've run a coupe to high mileage. I would probably get it around 15000 miles and run it for about 4 years at 35000miles a year. Would I be better to get the 6MT sedan?

From a drivetrain standpoint the cars are almost identical - I don't think you'll find a quality of build issue from the coupe to the sedan. It's more of a preference as to which you would prefer / which would suit your style better.

Great car!! G-37 manual trany is somewhat a little beefed up---go for it and flog it like you mean it. The car will put many smiles on your face for years to come. Fun car to drive.

There is only one problem, make sure you have some money saved for a traffic citation--speed ticket. I cannot stress this enough. Once you start driving the car, you are 80% going to be obssessed with driving it like a sports car and thus the possibility of earning a traffic citation. Just keep this in mind.

Welcome to NICO!

Marlin is correct, the coupe/sedan are almost identical for 2009; both are G37's. However in 2008, the coupe is a G37 and the sedan is a G35. (different engines).

With that being said, I have yet to see any complaints about high-mileage problems with ANY Infiniti product. You should be good to go with whatever car you prefer. If you're going to put all those miles on the car alone, I'd go with the coupe

Just a thought... if you are going to be putting that many miles on a car, then you might consider the sedan with 17" rims. it is my understanding that the 18"-19" rims on the G37 are staggered and will require new rubber every 10,000 miles and cannot be rotated (someone correct me if i'm wrong about this). By driving 30+K miles a year would result in you buying tires every 4 months at a cost of around $1k each time... Seems kinda pricey to me for a daily driver.

Just food for thought...

Good luck & welcome to Nico! Let us know what you decide either way!

Cheers,Dave

The rubber issue just has to deal with the type of tire you buy and the type of driving you do - you could easily buy some good high treadwear tires and have them last much longer than the stock tires do.

You can't rotate tires on a staggered setup unless you un-mount the tire from the wheel and remount it on the other side. All in all, not a really fun process. But then again, this has to do with directional treads - you can easily put a non-directional tread from the left side to the right side, but you probably won't get much worth out of it in the end.

The tires are wider in the back...so you can rotate from left-right only (you have to take the tires off the rims). The OEM tires don't last that long...I replaced mine at 13k miles. However, if you go with a different tire (I went with Toyo Proxies) you can get better mileage wear. In fact, I have 31k miles and still have plenty of tread left!

Joe:

I agree! My madness is now going to cost me some tires by the end of the month. My two rear Toyo Proxes T1R tires are now almost bare at 18,000 miles, after many weeks of flogging it on my secret track. OMG, Jacko should have been good with the tires. Now, I have to cough up $560 for another set of rear Toyo Proxes T1R tires. Anyway, it was well worth it. I had a blast with those tires----best tires ever.

Thanks for the useful advice. I would be using the car 95% for work and thus mainly highway and some city driving. So I'd treat the car pretty well and the wear and tear would be minimal. From a feel standpoint and for looks I love the coupe but if its true about replacing the tires that often then it makes no sense for me.

Can someone confirm if the g37 coupe has staggered tires and if they are actually going to need to be replaced that often. I live near Toronto and would be using 2 sets of tires (winter and summer). If i'm driving normally and not tearing them up would I not get 40-50k miles out of them like most tires?

Yep! The G-37 Coupe tires are staggered. I am not sure how you are going to drive the G-37 Coupe and be gentle with it. If anyone out there knows how this is possible, please TELL ME!! I am all ears. At some point, and this is a 95% chance, you are going to go crazy with that car, and thus, therein lies the problem, and the basis for an early tire wear.

If you buy a G-37 Coupe, better get an exorcism plan from a good exorcist in order to remove from within you, the daily demons you will be daling with while driving the car, because the demons of Infiniti will find its way into your soul, and thus demand that you drive that G-37 Coupe like a mad man because its an exciting car to drive. I have been struggling with this since I bought my G-35 Coupe, and the devil knows which buttons to press inside my heart when I get behind the wheels. Hence, the other advice I gave of bracing yourself for a traffic ticket as well.

If you want a daily driver, get the G-35 Sedan or wait for the G-37 Sedan. I don't beleive their tires of the sedans are staggered, and I beleive they last longer than those fo the coupe. G-35 sedan is an excellent Sedan that gives you thrill without the mild harshness of the coupe.

Somehow nobody mentioned it to you. So I do. The 08 G37 coupe is a RWD car. If you use it daily in winter I would go for the 09 with AWD option or the 08+ sedan with AWD option. Not sure if you plan it to use it in winter or you buy a winter beater.

Just a thought.

zozo

**EDIT** Never mind just read your last post. Winter/summer tires. Sure you want to do it in winter? Why not just an 09 with the AWD option.
